i vote for the videos. its not brainwashing...its the truth.

Of course, because the "unchurched" are morally reprehensible heathens with no ability to make "right or wrong" decisions.

Whatever.

The video is #######.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Then someone said "This video is a pathetic use of tragic events to push the Religious right's agenda" and everyone who can think for themselves said "yeah"

As usual the Bible thumpers contradict themselves again. They ask why GOD didn't stop these murders from happening?

For the same reason they always ignore even though it's in their Bible. For the same reason he didn't stop the Nazis, or Rawanda, or Cambodia and on and on.....

He gave us FREE WILL !!!! Or so the Bible says?? lol

Here's my favorite video on the Bible.

Penn acknowledges that it's totally by faith, but the facts don't support the Bible as accurate.

The shooter at VirginiaTech didn't need GOD!! He needed a #######!! and some poontang!

Every wacko that goes on a shooting spree IS NOT getting laid!

Gonna try again.

half-truth actually; the assumption is that the removal of school prayer was the CAUSE of the issue.

In reality, it was a STEP TOWARDS it (and not the first).

B.S. God is not BANNED from American schools. American students are free to tote bibles around with them, to pray at any time during the school day (as long as they are not disturbing other students), and they form bible study clubs and use school property for their meetings.

The 'removal' of school prayer was actually the banning of SCHOOL-LED prayer. It is against the first amendment to compel students in a public school to pray, and that is precisely what was happening. In a country like the United States with widespread religious tolerance it is important to not show preference for any one religion and with the Christians making everything political nowadays it can be difficult to explain to them that the non-Christian minority has just as many rights as they do.:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:

Not entirely--schools have acted against such spirit, example

Excuse me, the school-led prayer was no more compulsory than the singing of the national anthem or the (US) flag pledge. Students could always just remain silent at those times--so an "opt out" method was already in-place.

(I actually studied Grade 8 in a "Middle" school in the "Garbage State" aka NJ , from 1976-1977; flag-pledge was done every morning)

For every school doing that, there are probably 10x as many still leading school prayer. Schools are usually confused as to what its responsibilities are and what its students' rights are. Sometimes they need help. The ACLU actually publishes a great leaflet for schools that reminds them of their students' rights to pray and to carry bibles. Yep, THAT ACLU.

Excuse me, the school-led prayer was no more compulsory than the singing of the national anthem or the (US) flag pledge. Students could always just remain silent at those times--so an "opt out" method was already in-place.

Maybe not in YOUR state, but my mother remembers clearly being forced to pray in Connecticut and Texas. Optional school-led prayer has also been slapped down by the SCOTUS, so whether it's mandatory or optional is irrelevant since if an authority figure (i.e. a school administrator or teacher) is leading prayer, children may feel compelled to participate, hence it doesn't pass the sniff test.

Oh, and the original pledge of allegience did not contain the words 'Under God' and I will instruct my children (when I have some) to not recite that part of the pledge. It has to be the original pledge or nothing; I'm not going to have the effing Knights of Columbus and Dwight D. Eisenhower looming over my childrens' educational lives.

And let's not forget that schools in the UK (unless church schools obviously), do not have any religious activities, unless in a Religious Education class (in which they learn about ALL faiths). When was the last time there was a mass shooting in a UK school?

It's not about being compuslary or not. It's abou tthe establishment clause of the first amendment separating churchand state. See Engle v Vitale and the Lemon Test for church/state entanglement.

The pledge of alligence has been challenged on both the establishment clause (Court ruled it is not a prayer and therefore not a violation) and the free exercise clause (it can not be made compulsory - barnett late 1940s).

I take a bit of offence here.

  1. I live in MD (which, unlike NJ, is travellable*, and less expensive)
  2. The closest NJ ever came to being "my" state was that 1 year (1976-1977), only due to my dad's having sabbatical leave from UCalgary
  3. The states I'd actually even bother claiming as "mine" would be GA (first US job, and GC) and TX (due to a Dallas-area pastor who, when I phoned, could actually understand--without suggesting a "pat" NON-solution, unlike even my own parents--a situation I was going through at the time)--due to both having NONSTOP connexions (Delta from ATL; American from DFW; at-worst, Air-Canada from IAH) to YYC.

To term Alberta as "my" province is cent-percent accurate.

*NJ's closeness to NYC is what makes it untravellable; there are no reasonable (maximum of ONE aircraft-swap, which MUST NOT BE at Canada's hell-portal aka "Pearson") flights to Calgary from any of the three airports there.

Since you asked...

Dunblane, 1996.

UK schools do not have mass shootings because children find it difficult to access guns. I would say that bullying and discipline are bigger problems in UK schools though.
