Hello all,

We are putting together our RFE packet to "prove we have a valid marriage" and that it wasn't just for immigration- lol as if! Wondering if you guys think we have enough financial documents? We rent from my mom so we don't have a lease or anything. We also have not had a ceremony or celebration yet- just keeping it low key until we can afford the big thing! But we do have 1. licenses showing the same address 2. pictures of our credit cards since we are authorized on each others. We have four cards, and each two have the same numbers. 3) picture of the car title and registration in our name. 4) bank account statements showing we each transfer each other money as well as my mother money for rent 5) my husband's credit card statements showing he uses his credit card that I'm authorized on for groceries and gas 6) statement from our joint savings account 7) a flight itinerary from when we went to a wedding as well as pictures 8) pictures and Facebook statues from all throughout our relationship 9) sworn affidavits from friends and family. Do you think this is enough?

We talked about it, and don't want to have a joint checking account right now- just a personal preference. Surely this is not new to USCIS? I am hoping they will be understanding in knowing we are young and just starting out, so we don't have a house, property, or bills addressed to us yet (other than credit card bills.)

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for your reply! We included all the stuff they asked for in the original AOS packet- the I-485, affidavit of support, marriage certificate, passport photo, the I-94, and all of those things. My husband got his EAD in May so that's all set. We followed the guide on here and the instructions on the USCIS website, so I don't know why we got one. Also, I don't want to change my name and we don't have any posts on Facebook about our marriage- we're pretty private people and don't want to make a scene until we can afford a ceremony. Do you think that will count against us?

I didn't include any social media content, only chats from whatsapp, I did the CR1, but should be similar

It's puzzling to know why the RFE.  We sent zero extra evidence or photos. The only proof of marriage was the marriage certificate. Approved without interview. Maybe they just want to collect evidence you would normally take to an interview so they can approve you straight away. That would be nice, wouldn't it?

Wow.

We filed AOS and submitted our packet without any evidence of a bonafide marriage apart from our marriage certificate. Only during the interview did I bring  photos of us together with my inlaws, leasing contract of our apartment where we are both listed as tenants, and joint bank account info.

I guess some officers need more convincing than others.

But with the amount of evidence you are preparing, you should be alright. :)

Yes, it really would be nice! The letter specifically asks for all of the financial stuff that I listed- I didn't know those are things that are usually taken to the interview.

You can still sign a lease even though you rent from the mother, if you want to. There are leases to find online that you can fill out, print and sign. It'll show the address, both your names, what amount the rent is, from what date you moved in etc.

Well we tried to find something like that online, but nothing applied to our situation. My mother rents from the woman who owns the house. We pay my mom to help her with that rent. And rent fluctuates each month depending on what we can give. So we weren't sure what to do about that.

You can write your own letter. Have your mother write a letter explaining the situation and write down date you moved in, rent you pay etc. And all of you sign it.
