Address help! Moving soon but applying for AOS too.

I read in the instructions that you can change the address if you move and you need to contact USCIS in the next 10 days. What I am concerned is that they might send my documents to the previous address and take long to update the right address in their system. (Anyone has experience doing this?? If so, please share)

 

So I am considering doing as they say OR use a different mailing address of a family's friend in all the forms. The thing is I don't want them to think I am suspicious of something by living somewhere else and using someone else's address.

 

I just don't know when I will move. Probably within 1 or 2 months.  And I really don't want to have a broken communication during the AOS. 

 

Any word of advice?

It takes a month to update in their system. Just change your address asap and forward your mail at usps to your new address and you'll be fine.

I would recommend having whatever address on file with them the one I live at. It's not worth risking your case because of something trivial like mailing. It's a pain in the backside when you change your address but as long as you update your address with USPS you will still get your mail. 

 

Also after you file your address change and you've got confirmation of it being complete, about two weeks after filing, you could try and call the USCIS and check what address they have on file for you... I had a nightmare with it but that's just because I moved after my interview was scheduled.

Unfortunately mail from the government can't be forwarded I've heard, so look carefully into that before doing anything.

I kinda have the same problem. I filed in March 2017 and my USCIS case status doesn't update at all (EAD/AP on "case received" even if I have it for almost 2 months now etc), so I'm not sure when my Interview will be ready. 

Because of my husbands job we will have to move from Virginia to Illinois, to Mississippi, to Illinois again, to finally Iowa - all within 2017 and 2018. 

So I'm actually interested if you guys think if it would be better to always update my address every single time or to just put in the address of my Mother-in-law's place....

(Worst time to move, I know!!! *sigh sigh*)

I guess in your case it would be wise to just leave it with ur mother in law address. In my case I think it will be better to apply with my current address and then change it with USCIS as soon as I move out.

We waited one month after moving to a different state to officially change our address to make sure nothing got lost in the mail, or that we wouldn't miss an appointment in our original city. It depends where you are in the process (the process is so slow - it took us one year from I-485 to the interview). The most important hard copy "Notice" (I-797) is the first one sent to you confirming receipt of your I-485, which is mailed out within 5 days of receipt of the I-485. This first Notice I-797 shows the official "receipt date" and has a bar code at the bottom, both of which are important for future follow up. So, maybe wait until after you receive that first I-797 Notice before changing your address. We filed the I-485 in 9/16 and received the first Notice I-797 within 10 days. The next step is the "biometrics" (fingerprints and photo) appointment, which you can  schedule at any "application support center" across the country. Also, check the processing times for your current field office and future field office. Some offices are taking 1.5 years and some are less than 1 year. It might be worth flying back to your original city for the interview if their processing time is faster.

I believe your mailing address can be of a relative, but if your actual address, the one you're living in, changes, then you'd have to let them know
