But yes, social construct.. imaginary.. exactly what I've been saying. Thank you for your concurrence.

Did you even read it or did you just not understand it? Do I need to make it more simple for you?

that's now how it works. when you're in the military there's military health care. i don't know much about it, because i'm not in the military. but, since the military is one's employment and health insurance is employment based, you see where i'm going with this. i have no problem with people's viagra being covered, so long as this is an equal precedence. and again, not every transgendered person is getting surgery or hormones. but this is the angle certain parties like to push, because they have a very narrow and bigoted idea of what a transgendered person is.

eta, i didn't see the ####### job bit..as long as it's medically necessary and would be covered under regular health insurance and not considered cosmetic only, go for it. i know there are people here who can't fathom a woman getting a reduction, but it's a real thing.

Then it's health care with all the bells and whistles, seems really excessive.

As for the ####### job they don't only get reductions, just prove it affecting you mentally and you can get an enlargement. My wife's first hubby was in the navy and apparently a few of the ladies took advantage both ways.

If someone went for an interview for a job and said I am transgender and you have excellent health coverage so I really want to work for you. Oh and by the way for 1-3 years I won't be available to work properly because I will be recovering from surgery, would they get the job or would they be told to go do one?

The comparison to women with transgenders is also silly.

well, if a person can in fact prove such a thing, i don't have a problem with it. but that's just how i am. i don't like making blanket judgments on people's lives/healthcare when it has absolutely nothing to do with me. i know a few women who married into the military for housing and insurance for their kids from prior relationships, marriages of convenience for the benefits. personally, i think its commendable that anyone volunteers to serve in the military and i think they should be taken care of as they're essentially putting their life on the line, if they're transgendered or need to pop some viagra to have a healthy sex life or want to enter into a marriage contract for cheap housing and good insurance, it doesn't matter to me. who am i to judge?

The entire transition may take 1-3 years but recovering from surgery would not take that long.

Most people who transition take hormones for a few years before they have any sort of surgery (if they ever do). They are able to work normal jobs while on hormones, just fine. Source? Friends and acquaintances who have been through this.

Seems to me like the military already has financial burdens in military employees who are overweight/obese or decide to have a huge family on a low salary. Transgendered individuals surely won't cost more than those individuals.

Yeah I think that @Mr&Mrs G. got the recovery time confused with the whole transitioning. And not all go for all the surgeries either.

Source?

Apologies can't find the link I read earlier, but it is a process that if all goes well it will take 1-3 years which is a common figure across most sites. For some it may take longer mentally and physically.

I haven't got a clue, but why should anyone be allowed time off from active duty to complete elective multiple surgeries.
