We used a money gram from Walmart as form of payment, is that okay?

We couldn't get a check, and were only able to find money orders up to $500. We got a money gram from Walmart for $535, is that going to be a problem? It doesn't need to be withdrawn from a bank as it's a money gram, the money is already there. Someone tried telling me that's not allowed, so I'd just like to confirm.

It needs to be a cheque or money order. if it's neither of those things then it will likely not be accepted.

Ah so you mean to tell me the $535 money gram we shipped off with our petition today is just gone forever? Lol. Ahh wonderful.

I don't understand here. We couldn't get a check, his bank is military and there's no branch we could go to. We tried money orders and nowhere would do them over $500.

We were told hey go to walmart, they do money orders up to $1,000. We go there today and ask specifically for a money order, she says yes, prints it out, and we leave. We notice it's called a "money gram" but think nothing of it. Really hope this isn't going to be a problem haha

You're likely talking about a Moneygram-branded money order.

USPS has money orders.

We went there today first, and were told " we don't do that here, go to Walmart."

I don't know if it's that tiny little location or what , but we went to so many different places and they either didn't do it there, or nothing over $500.

I haven't a clue to be honest haha, I've never used any type of money order. Is that accepted if so?

Yes.

Whoever told you USPS doesn't do money orders was very much mistaken.

We used USPS money order for $535. I'm surprised your local USPS doesn't.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

People at USPS are often clueless. I usually have to use google the answer my own questions because when I ask the people working there they have no clue.

Yeah we were surprised too as we heard that was the place to go to get one. There was only one employee who didn't seem super thrilled to be there haha, long weekend maybe!

I seriously hope us using a "money gram" from walmart was okay, because we shipped it off today. I'm finding no solid answer to this and I'm in a whole new world of anxiety, right when I felt relieved it was finally sent off :o

My fiancee used a Walmart money order, and it was accepted without a problem.  No need to panic :-)

THANK YOU! Sending internet hugs! Relief omg. :jest:

you're welcome. Make sure to join the thread for your month of filers... July I assume if you sent it off today, but its definitely a good thing to follow to get an idea of when your application might finally be approved in 3+ months time.  As an early July filer, you might want to also follow the June thread, as that will also help you have an idea when to start expecting a response.

Welcome to the journey and to the long wait... and most of all, good luck!
