Couldn't this guy have gone the Investor Visa route?  I am not a huge fan of that program, but it would have seemed to be possible although I am not sure how many people his business employs.

Regardless, you have to ask yourself something.  If John Cunningham had been on VJ asking how to overcome an overstay what kind of advice would he have received?

Marriage would be the obvious option, Investor visa well not when he came over and he would have no one to file a waiver for an EB5.

Begs the question how he was an electrician, a license job in CO.

It's unfortunate how Colorado has changed.

I have heard it blamed on the number of people fleeing California.

It's likely true. My wife and I regularly visit the states around Alberta for shopping, and getting stuff in the US we can't get in Canada (mainly junk food, though we've sort of halted that of late going mainly for clothes or insane savings on very expensive items).

Anyways, Montanans in particular are rather hostile to Californians, I learned first hand telling people, as a native Californian. Pretty much all of them were nice enough to detail why they hate Californians -- they hunt a lot up in Montana.. since a decade ago, they've taken advantage of the cheaper prices of property in the state, buying up huge swaths of land that Montanans used to hunt on, and were extremely permissive about. However, the Californians that came in put up fences and signs and trespassed people hunting, effectively shredding up land that was permissively used for hunting. Then they started suing neighbors and the communities as well, pissing them all off. Montanans weren't very fond of Californians before, but that influx of them coming in and being ####### made them extra bitter.

So.. I know better now than to associate myself as a native Californian in that state and others nearby (Idaho, Dakotas, etc.). They love Canadians in Montana, especially Albertans.

Allow us to hunt Californians, problem solved.

My local rag the Denver Post does similar sob stories and gets ridiculed in the comments section but still keep on doing it.

We have a similar story going on right now in SE Michigan.  Approximately 100 or so Chaldean Iraqis are being detained for possible deportation.  Some of these folks can be described as less than law abiding.  For the most part the two papers we have are pushing the whole potential religious persecution with their return to Iraq, but they do at least report on the crimes some of these folks have committed.

I've heard of this as well, a few buddies of mine from an old site are from Dearborn et al, and have dealt with this.. and they're Arabic. In the end, we're brothers with the same goal:

In some ways I envy Albertans and Montanans, they're very soft spoken.. very polite. And here I am, native of a liberal state and an exceedingly liberal part of that state, being a loudmouth who agrees with them. I never get criticism, mainly because they're silent, but I can tell sometimes they are turned off by how openly I deride lefties. So out of respect, I tone it down.

I have heard that about Idaho as well. A fair number of Californians are buying land there to get out of California due to the COL. They then close it off to hunters and the locals get pissed.

That's what I was asking in the FB feed of it because their comment section would not let post even though I wrote it out 3 times. I was saying that there is more to this story than they are letting on because she could have gone the I601A route to become legal. I was then vilified by people saying "that I didn't know what I was talking about or that I was flat out wrong because there is no path for her to become legal". So I went and showed them the evidence and what waivers she could have applied for, all I got in return was *crickets*.

Then the other article came out saying that lo and behold she had a Federal Felony conviction for a fraudulent visa. So that is how she a order for deportation since 2001 and how she got on ICE's radar.

That would require a I601, just meant she would have to be home longer than with the A.

A fraudulent visa can be overcome, claim to US citizenship would be a major issue.

Ok thank you. Yeah I understood that point that it can be overcome IF there are steps taking to overcome it. But that person DID NOTHING to overcome anything at all.

That's what I was thinking as well. She might have thought she was going to get DAPA and a stay on her deportation order.

She hadn't taken advantage of the other options she had available to her, and thumbed her nose at the law.  I doubt she would have taken advantage of DAPA.
