Donald Trump Jr. calls out BBC over Jerusalem attack headline

Nothing new under the sun, but after having seen literally hundreds of those things throughout my life I am contemplating maybe the next time there is an attack in Britain I should not call it terror, either? I have never understood people who believe the BBC is balanced - they're one of the biggest hypocrites out there.

US President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Jr., on Saturday called out the BBC for a headline on the Jerusalem terror attack that neglected to mention the Israeli Border Police officer stabbed to death, and focused only on the three Palestinians killed without noting that they were the assailants.

“Three Palestinians killed after deadly stabbing in Jerusalem,” read the BBC tweet.

 

Trump Jr. immediately tweeted back: “You mean after they stabbed a female Israeli police officer to death… right? This is as close to being misleading as possible.”

“Need a new term for this nonsense. Sort of the opposite of victim blaming. How about Culprit Coddling? Maybe Criminal Cozying? Thoughts???,” he tweeted.

At time of writing, the headline of the BBC article linked to the tweet did note that the officer was killed in the attack, stating “Israeli policewoman stabbed to death in Jerusalem.”

On Friday, three Palestinians armed with an automatic weapon and knives carried out near simultaneous attacks at two locations near the Damascus Gate, close to Jerusalem’s Old City.

Border Police Staff Sgt. Hadas Malka, 23, was stabbed to death. According to the Border Police statement, Malka was part of a group of officers responding to sounds of gunfire near their area of patrol close to Damascus Gate, when she was attacked. Nearby troops shot and killed the assailants.

At least four more people were injured in the attacks, including another policeman. They all sustained light to moderate wounds and were being treated in hospital.

 

The Israeli embassy in London also lodged a complaint with BBC “for the false reports about the attack in Jerusalem and their refusal to use the words terror when it comes to attacks on Israeli citizens,” Ynet reported.

Donald Jr. has been active on twitter recently, frequently acting as a surrogate for his father, particularly during sacked FBI director James Comey’s recent Senate testimony.

That just happened to be the headline of that one, I read other versions of it in Hebrew which had less to do with him as that's not really the point.

Did they need to change the content in the article or was the issue only with the headline?

 

"Three Palestinians killed after deadly stabbing in Jerusalem"

 

The only addition i would have made to that headline would have been something like "Three Palestinian assailants killed..." or something. The headline references the soldier who was stabbed with "deadly stabbing". Should have just made it more clear that the Palestinians were the attackers.

Why not "Boarder Police Killed by three Palestinian Attackers"  The body of the story can deal with the fact that the assailants are now at room temperature.

Based on reading the article it seems like the Guard may not have died at the same, and may have later passed. There were "further reports" that she had died. At the time of the original tweet I'm not sure if she had been killed yet. Though technically if they use the word "Deadly" it implies she was already dead but people use "deadly" very loosely these days.

 

I don't make much a headlines from any newspaper/newsagent these days. They are designed mostly to increase clicks. Perhaps the thought of three people dead being mentioned in the headline was thought of as better than 1 because a higher death count increases interest? It's all messed up.

 

As long as the content of the article itself presents the information accurately I don't care what they use as a headline. I tend to find the BBC presents the information well in their articles and on the tele.

Seems sort of similar to the long thread we had about Chelsea Clinton calling out Duterte and how she was in no position to judge given her family. What was your opinion in that situation? Trump Jr is the spawn of someone with a very very long list of questionable actions and very questionable tweets.

Here is another special little nugget(again, nothing new, but haven't posted those things for quite some time):

 

The annual "Al Quds" march was held in London on Sunday, with hundreds of supporters waving Hezbollah flags as they were making their way to London's city center.

 

A heavy police presence escorted demonstrators, who accused Israel of genocide, crimes against humanity and held signs with messages such as "We are all Hizbullah (sic), Boycott Israel" and "Free Palestine."

This year, hundreds of pro-Israel demonstrators organized a counter-protest, where President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Jonathan Arkush, called on anti-Israel protestors to meet next year in Tehran and not London.

 

World Jewish Congress representative Vladimir Bermant said, "Hezbollah's path is the path of violence. Unfortunately, we people in London are already familiar with the flags of terrorism and calls for 'death to Israel' and 'death to Americans.'

There are many issues alot of times in the content of their articles as well, including this one. However this had to do with the tweet, which people don't necessarily look for an article to accompany. That's how you incite people by giving them fake news, pretending Israel killed 3 Palestinians "in a stabbing" where there is no context provided that they were the stabbers and they were killed in self defense. Again, this isn't the first time. Not even the 100th time.

 

BBC is biased, and I never watch their news for good reason. They have a clear agenda and that doesn't have much to do with clicks. They want to portray things a certain way.

That's exactly it though, they always do that. It's not by mistake, it's by design.

You're probably right, I just haven't really noticed and like I said I don't pay much attention to headlines since I consider them all "attention grabbing" attempts.

 

I also have conflicting opinions about the Israeli/Palestinian issue, which is beyond the scope of these forums. I also already have a best mate who argues with me about it all the time, as an Israeli/US citizen.

There's really not much to argue about - any reasonable person knows what the best solution is - it's the way to get there that is the issue. I have long believed, since I was very young, in a resolution to the conflict as do many Israelis and Palestinians. Unfortunately there's also many who don't and there's alot of distrust on both sides. I personally have many Palestinian friends and you'd be surprised how many Israelis/Palestinians have Palestinian/Israeli friends, as well as Israeli Arabs(who are 25% of the population). This thread has nothing to do with politics though, that's completely besides the point and having conflicting opinions on that doesn't mean what the BBC as well as a majority of the MSM routinely does is right when it comes to this conflict which is blatant anti Israel bias. 

 

The conflict does not mean that those 3 guys should have attacked the officer, nor does it mean the BBC should have reported on it in a manner as in to portray Israel as unjustly killing 3 Palestinians who did nothing(because that's basically what the headline means and what they have been doing as I mentioned for decades). Stuff like that only fuels hate and causes more attacks by people who actually believe the incitement(the Palestinian news report on it in the same manner and even worse).

 

I firmly believe that until governments as well as news agencies as well as groups like BDS get out of the picture there will be no peace. Peace will have to, and will start from the people, if more are allowed to get to know each other and see each other as friends and as equal beings. That's on both sides and picking a side does nothing to promote peace.
