Hello,

i am an exchange student who has just returned home but my family won the diversity visa so I need to fly back to America with them. But I can't because of the two year rule.

I have recently applied for a J1 visa waiver and my current status says that they have sent sponsor views and there is also a request for sponsor views. "sponsor views" are said to be sent on 9 April, but it is June now and I haven't received anything. Am I supposed to be waiting for anything at all? Or should I just ask my sponsors for views?

I take it you are under 21?

Sponsor Views are requested by DOS directly from the program sponsor, and there is nothing you can do about it other than wait.

Who sponsored your program? What program were you on that brought you to the US under J-1?

Kennedy Lugar YES program. It was sponsored by the DOS. Thank you for clarifying me!

Yea, sorry to say but you got zero chances for the No Objection-based waiver here. Since you were sponsored by the Department of State, the recommendation is always not favorable.

There have been several cases of the people I know that got the Waiver so I guess it is possible

Send an e-mail to 212 and ask them to request the sponsor views again.

How long do you have left of the 2 years? I think that because the paperwork for the diversity lottery takes a long time, you should be alright without the waiver. You can start the paperwork but they won't give you the green card until you serve the time. Your family will get their green cards and can move first.

So do you know people that travelled in the same program who got the waiver? That should be your comparison.

Best of luck. I have not heard of anyone getting the waiver for DOS-sponsored programs through No Objection. Hardship is more common, through NOS - haven't seen one.
