I think Comey's response is quite reasonable. He had a superior that he answers to. He told that superior that what the President was doing wasn't appropriate (unplanned private meetings with the FBI director). I don't think it was necessarily his place to tell it directly to the President's face.

Oh also Pence claimed he had no idea about anything about Flynn... Comey says he and other officials basically know that claim isn't true.

Leaders of executive cabinets change unless they are good yes men. Obama relieved numerous people for this reason, Trump is obviously no different.

Can we be clear about the "obstruction of justice" issue...

 

A president is guilty if he ATTEMPTED to obstruct justice. Not only if he is successful? Am I understanding that correctly?

 

Furthermore, whether or not the President's choice of attempts was a "smart one" shouldn't matter as well, correct? If it was the President's intention to stop an investigation, even if the way he attempted to do so was poorly chosen doesn't negate the fact that it was his intention.

 

A couple of the people have asked Comey questions like "Would firing the Director of the FBI be a good way to stop an investigation?". To me that question doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if Trump picked a "good way" to do something, what matters is if his intention in his actions was to try to impede the investigation. Just because Trump is an idiot and can't pick the proper ways to do things doesn't mean he is less guilty.

I think McCain has aged quite a bit. He seems very very confused about cases. His time with Comey was really awkard. 

 

Comey kept saying the Clinton email investigation was completed, McCain keeps thinking that the investigation into Clinton was the Russian investigation. The Clinton investigation had to do with her email server. Comey never said there would be no charges against Clinton involving Russian involvement, it was about her email server.

 

Poor man is getting senile

Seriously I don't know why Comey didn't clarify it more. McCain kept harping on the July announcement that the investigation into Clinton was completed. That was an investigation into her email server only, not into Russian involvement in the election. McCain didn't seem to understand the difference.
