For me the crucial pieces are that conversation coupled with Comey's firing.

1. Trump said "I hope you can see your way clear ot letting this thing go"

2. Comey did not "let this thing go"

3. Comey got fired

If those three things are all linked, and there is evidence from other conversations that Trump has admitted that Comey was fired because of the Russian investigation (which I know there are "leaks" that he said as much to some Russian diplomat), that is worrisome, in my opinion. He clearly was very suggestive to Comey, and when Comey failed to do what was suggested, he was fired. That seems like attempting to obstruct justice to me.

One thing I've seen a lot of people commenting on is whether Trump had "criminal intent" when he said what he said. I think the problem there is Trump is just so clueless when it comes to government and legal matters, I doubt he had criminal intent at all. He probably had to google "obstruction of justice" once people started bringing it up. At the time of his conversation with Comey he probably didn't even realize that trying to get Comey to drop the investigation would be illegal. So I don't think he had criminal intent, but I think that is just because he was clueless about the law and didn't realize what he was doing was illegal. It's the problem of having a clueless idiot in a position of such immense power.

The truth is...the remedy is not criminal conviction, the remedy is impeachment which is about politics. Based on what we are seeing so far, the republicans will not take the country through that....but let his poll numbers drop another 8 points ...then self preservation will kick in

Wow, Comey said he wrote down notes with Trump because he didn't trust him and he lies. Never had to do it with Bush or Obama.

Comey was/is a Washington Insider, Trump is not.  Washington Insiders are well versed in CYA.

Dershowitz is probably right based on the released transcripts. Lets see what the question s bring. One thing for sure , if it was you and me pulling this stuff we would be doing hard federal time.

And you have to ask yourself, if Trump has nothing to hide why does he work so hard at looking like a man who does?

I don't think so.  He brought up a point I had forgotten about with the whole George H. W. Bush and Casper Weinberger issue.  According to Alan D. if the president says stop, or issues a pardon, that is the end.

I have my doubts about that...why did gw Bush not stop the Plame investigation or Clinton white water?

I don't know. Ask him tomorrow during his testimony. I tried calling him but he isn't picking up.

You do know the restraining order includes phone calls right?

Sen. Feinstein asked a question I wanted to know: If he knew the contact was inappropriate how far did he go in letting the President know it was inappropriate. It might take courage to tell a President no, but how directly clear did he make it?

Rubio asks if he told the President not to ask these things (about Flynn) ever again. Comey says no, that he felt he needed to be careful of what he said. That speaks of intimidation doesn't it?

Good god, if I were FBI director I don't care if it's the President asking me to do something illegal, I would tell him directly with no hesitation ''absolutely not''. The former Attorney Gen wasn't afraid of falling on her sword for telling the President no. Comey was suspicious of where this would all lead to begin with, I don't care if he had to get mad with the President and tell him no - TELL HIM NO. It's clear Jeffy wasn't going to tell him no at Comey's urging.

Ya it seems like Comey is admitting that he was "walking the line" so to speak. He knew things didn't sit right, but he wasn't willing to actually call it openly.

Though he does say he submitted these memos after writing them, so he wasn't keeping the content a secret from those within the organization. I also believe he mentioned that he had told Sessions to never let Trump set up a private meeting with him again since it wasn't appropriate. I'd say going to your immediate superior with that sort of thing may be better than just directly telling the President.

BTW another tidbit here with an intimidation attempt: Comey says Lynch attempted to pressure him to call it a ''matter'' rather than ''investigation''. He was extremely concerned about that too.

Collins again wondering why Comey didn't emphatically demand the President stop doing what he was doing. Comey says he went to several individuals to tell them to tell the President to stop his behavior. So many spineless yes men....

Oh also Pence claimed he had no idea about anything about Flynn... Comey says he and other officials basically know that claim isn't true.
