If only it could be as you described in your longer post but I am not convinced that those who get a trip to Washington are the real targeted audience you would be hoping to change. I believe that every time you put your hand out it will get slapped because those that perpetrate the violence will never have any interest in peace. If western governments stopped meddling in the middle east, if Israel left their lands behind and mass emigrated around the world we would still have extreme Islamic militants on our doorsteps. 

 

There is no peace when it comes to Islamic militants no matter how much we may want it, they don't. It was announced earlier today that there are 3000 individuals currently under deep scrutiny in the UK. Back in the 70's the UK government had internment camps for the IRA and I can see it happening again. 

 

If Islam as a religion cannot find a way to solve the issue then I fear for the future.

As I mentioned before, a British ex of mine whom I still talk to has a Muslim Iranian side on her mom's(or mum's) side and a British dad. Classic example of a family that integrated very well. I would never think of any of them as people who can support terrorism so I almost take personal offense when the whole religion gets blamed for those attacks. That said I also realize that while there's a ton of good muslims, there's also a ton of not so good ones. She acknowledges that as well. However there really isn't much more than what's being done that can be done. Israel has a 25% muslim population that's very sympathetic to the Palestinian cause as they are basically Palestinians themselves. Yet attacks by an Israeli muslim citizen are very rare. They happen, but not often. It's usually the Palestinians outside of Israel, who don't have as much to lose that commit these attacks. So I think they key is twofold: to make sure they are provided with the tools to have a good life, as well as good intelligence to thwrart the attacks that are planned.

 

As per my comment in the other thread I found it utterly ridiculous this was reported all night long. That does contribute unnecessarily to the hysteria, and also points to hypocrisy of not reporting much on attacks in many other countries, as if British/French blood is more valuable or something.

Just wait for the next missing/crashed plane, then Donald Trump or terrorism might not exist for the next week or ten.

After the Manchester Arena terror attack, Amber Rudd told the public: “We must not imply that this terrorist activity wouldn’t have taken place if there had been more policing … good counter-terrorism activity is because you have a close relationship between the policing and intelligence services.” 

This kind of rhetoric may seem persuasive and eloquent but, as so often with politicians trying to avoid blame, it is untrue. It is untrue because it misses a key and huge fundamental point to the protection of our national security: community policingintelligence. 

Police officers embedded in the community, there to help, there to listen, there to understand the community they serve. It is in the community where the best intelligence is learnt and gathered, from the people who notice a change in behaviour of their friends and neighbours, allowing early intervention and monitoring.

Theresa May’s cuts have removed these officers from the streets. The intelligence they brought in through local knowledge and community engagement has dried up and collapsed, and the local bobby known to all has gone, replaced by a reactive police “service” that is inadequate – as the press is always so quick to point out when mistakes are made and splashed all over their front pages.

May was warned two years ago that cuts to policing could lead to such events.

I always find those to be fascinating though. I love watching aircrash investigation shows, but my wife doesn't allow me if she's around if we're supposed to fly in the foreseeable future lol

You appear to be talking from experience, how would an incident like this be reported in the Middle East?

 

Also is it not a case of that we see less of it on our doorsteps so it's more of a shock , hence the all day news story.

In Israel? Quite honestly, no disrespect to the victims that died, I would say probably about an hour of reporting when it happened, and then maybe a few minutes once an hour or so for updates for a few hours(and regular scheduling inbetween even if it's comedy)...by today the schedule would be completely back to normal. 

 

I don't think it's a shock, or shouldn't be...as some of us said yesterday it is expected(and has been for about 20 years now) and expected to continue.

Is that not just because as a nation you became more immune to the killing and on a good day only 7 may die? 

 

Surely years ago when the violence was in it's infancy it got more air time?

It may have gotten a little more in its infancy but really its true "infancy" was hundreds of years ago so yeah I would say being immune is part of it. We all know someone who died or who knows someone who died. However I am more referring to the fact the news outlets, not necessarily in the location where it happened(so doesn't have to be the UK, can be the US in this example) tend to "care enough" to report and report obsessively only if it's a western European or north American country - they don't tend to do the same if it's other countries, and it doesn't have to be Israel - I don't have a personal issue with it, as I also mentioned Turkey and Afghanistan but really you can add many other countries to the list too.

I understand what your saying,  the main Irish news channel here carried the story live but that's not unusual because they are our nearest neighbor.  When channel hopping last night Fox news just carried the feed from the UK via Sky News and only broke to add a few words of their own. I can see being in the US it would seem a little overboard to carry the story so heavily but over this way we would carry an unlimited news flow of an incident in the US.

No doubt, such an approach wouldn't eradicate the problem, and that problem still needs to be effectively policed and dealt with, but it can help alleviate some potential growth, even for a bit.  Many radicalized Muslims are so because they are disenfranchised and have nobody else to turn to.  But if we have Muslim leaders who are willing to work together with our leaders (and there ARE some - the majority don't agree with what the terrorists are doing) and this is touted regularly on the news by our leaders, then I think we will find some who would have otherwise been potential converts to radicalism would be able to have better role models to identify with instead that believes in and touts peace.  Right now we instead we see a huge racist backlash against Muslims in general with each incidence and this does nothing to help alleviate the problem.

Well no, they are radicalized most in countries where leftists run things, where they are not told either assimilate or go back. They're effectively given the impression, as virtually all immigrants are, that a country's laws and customs are irrelevant, and they can take the garbage they fled from and bring it to the country they're moving to. Leftists are the impediment to cultural scrutiny of a religion that's clearly still stuck in the 1600s. It's pretty funny with how much leftists whine about Christians given their permissive attitude toward this barbaric religion.

 

Also, lol, Islam is a race? Must be some of that intellectual superiority millennials are bringing.
