Do I have to return to SS office for permanent SSN?

Hi,

 

Quick question. When I received my EAD card I went to the SS office and applied for my SSN. I received it about a week later but it had "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization" on it.

Now that I have my Greencard, do I have to go back to the SS office to apply for a permanent one or will it automatically be sent to me?

It won't be automatically sent to you as they have no idea when you received your greencard. They don't even know if you got a greencard or if you were denied.

Agreed, to get the note removed, you have to go back to the SSA.

The SSA wants you to update your status in their records so they know you are no longer temporarily admitted to the US. From their website:

 

What if my immigration status or citizenship changed?

If your immigration status changed or you became a U.S. citizen, you should tell Social Security so we can update your records. To get your immigration status or citizenship corrected, you need to show documents that prove your new status or citizenship. We can accept only certain documents as proof of citizenship for new and replacement cards. These include your U.S. passport, a Certi cate of Naturalization or a Certi cate of Citizenship. If you aren’t a U.S. citizen, Social Security will ask to see your current immigration documents.
