The first amendement is not made up. It is not, but we do have libel and slander in our courts.  That is the remedy.  I just wish with all the dozens pizzagates floating around during the last election the same care and handling of info was in vouge

The sources of pizzagate claims weren't anonymous. So they could be verified, and were verified as false.

 

However, I'm referring to the harm the media is doing to people's reputation (which includes government representatives) and their life by spreading fake news via anonymous sources. Given it's use.. it makes sense to forcefully compel these people to reveal their sources or prove it's accuracy.. or go to jail + face civil penalties.

and again the remedy is civil lawsuit and not proactively jailing people because you dont like what they say

They're often protected from civil suits. Only once in recent memory (my memory that is) has someone in the media been forcefully compelled to reveal sources or face jail. This needs to be extended to cover logical limitations of the first amendment.

Yeah we have seen your "logic"

If the attorney general has a compelling case to obtain Information on a source they are free bring that journalist to a judge. Jailing folks because you don't like their info is protected.
