Trump Revealed Highly Classified Intelligence to Russia, in Break With Ally, Officials Say

WASHINGTON — President Trump boasted about highly classified intelligence in a meeting with the Russian foreign minister and ambassador last week, providing details that could expose the source of the information and the manner in which it was collected, a current and a former American government official said Monday.

The intelligence disclosed by Mr. Trump in a meeting with Sergey V. Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, and Sergey I. Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the United States, was about an Islamic State plot, according to the officials. A Middle Eastern ally that closely guards its own secrets provided the information, which was considered so sensitive that American officials did not share it widely within the United States government or pass it on to other allies.

Mr. Trump’s disclosure does not appear to have been illegal — the president has the power to declassify almost anything. But sharing the information without the express permission of the ally who provided it was a major breach of espionage etiquette, and could jeopardize a crucial intelligence-sharing relationship.

In fact, the ally has repeatedly warned American officials that it would cut off access to such sensitive information if it were shared too widely, the former official said. In this case, the fear is that Russia will be able to determine exactly how the information was collected and could disrupt the ally’s espionage efforts.

When pressed by ABC News' Jonathan Karl, McMaster would not say if Trump had disclosed classified information. Trump said in a pair of tweets Tuesday he had the "absolute right" to share "facts" with the Russians.

"We don't say what's classified, what's not classified. What I will tell you again is that what the president shared was wholly appropriate," he said.

On Monday, McMaster said "at no time were intelligence sources or methods discussed. And the president did not disclose any military operations that were not already publicly known."

McMaster said he was in the room for the May 10 meeting in the Oval Office, noting that the larger conversation was "about the terrorist threat."

"The president was emphasizing we have some common interests here. We have to work together in critical areas," McMaster said.

"So this was the context of the conversation in which it was wholly appropriate to share what the threat was as a basis for common action and coordination," he said.

It's a wash. I don't inherently believe McMaster but I trust the leftist media's "anonymous sources" even less. This is another bunch of nothing being dramatized by people upset about November.

So Mc Masters denies stuff not in the WaPo article, doesn't deny stuff that is, Trump backs up truck to run over him to make sure there is no pulse. 

 

The White House is the most miserable place in the world.  Period.

And again... there is a pretty hardline conservative who knows the source directly that leaked this information out to the press. They are confident as to the accuracy of what happened in the room and describe that what was said was even worse than what the source reported to the press.

I've actually given President Trump the benefit of the doubt being different from our typical politician, but at the current pace things are going for him he is going to get himself impeached.

 

It's quite sad as I'd hope things would change for the better after his State of the Union address.

I really could care less about winning (which is a stupid slogan) or which party is in power. I prefer a government that is able to work and compromise with one another.
