Hi all,

I received a Request for Initial Evidence (I-485) for an Adjustment of Status Application about 2 weeks ago. USCIS is requesting that I submit all supporting tax documentation for/from the petitioner, who in my case is my wife, for the most recent year (2016).

We had already submitted a copy of her complete TurboTax tax return transcript (Form 1040A, Form 8863, Form 8965, Form 1098-T, Tax Payments Worksheet, Education Tuition and Fees Summary, Federal Carryover Worksheet, Form OR-EF, Form OR-40, Form OR-ASC) along with original copies of her W-2s from last year. We also included a letter of employment from her boss, pay history from the last 3 months, and proof of her U.S. Citizenship.

We have requested a hard copy of her tax transcript from IRS and should be receiving it within the next few days. Does anyone know what else USCIS might need? I want to make sure I am submitting everything to avoid the risk of having my petition be denied.

Thank you in advance,

Felipe Ferreira

You can just get them here digitally: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Transcripts are what they want because that shows that everything is current and filed and nothing is owed. Most will say supply 3 years worth.

But if thats all they asked for then just supply what they have requested and should be okay.

Thank you for the swift response, Ben&Zian!

We tried getting her transcript online but we kept getting an error -- probably the address format since it doesn't have a slot for Apartment no. We decided to request one via mail but we will try the online option again tomorrow once our login is no longer blocked.

Do you think that will suffice? What is the difference between the IRS transcript and TurboTax's?

The IRS transcript is a true copy of what was filed. It is an official government document. turbo tax is not an official government agency. They want the  filing for 2016 because your file is being worked on in 2017 and the wage info is needed for 2016.

Agreed with above. As said the IRS tax trasncript shows that you did infact file and nothing is owed.

I am about to submit the tax documentation but I wanted to make sure that I have everything that I need beforehand. My partner filed her original W-2s from last year a couple months ago and we are now submitting her Tax Return and Account IRS transcripts along with her TurboTax tax return transcript. Should I also submit Form W-2 from IRS? Please let me know as I was not able to pull that one up online and will need to fax IRS to request her W-2s.

Thank you in advance!

just submit what was requested. W2 are issued by employer and not IRS so you have to request them form employer or payroll service they use like ADP.
