Hi everybody :D

My mom's  IR-5 visa has been approved and she should be here soon. I'm super excited she will finally meet her granddaughter .

So she will be given the conditional GC, we will have to renew it after 2 years, right?

She is 62, never been out of my country, She won't work, she will stay with me.

Can she petition my sisters? If so, how long she has to wait to petition them?

They are 20 and 27, unmarried.

How long she has to stay here to qualify for renewing her GC if she wants to travel back home to see my sisters?

Now my concern .... what kind of medical insurance can I get for her that doesn't cost me a fortune? 😟

She is healthy, non smoker, but takes pills for her blood pressure.

Thank you in advance

hi

if you filed for her the no, she will be given the 10 year GC, the 2 year GC is only for spouses of USC or LPR married less than 2 years,

she can file immediately for your sisters, it will take over 6 years of waiting and your sisters can't marry

you will have to research insurances, but as you know there is nothing cheap

The best advice for someone that young and healthy is to quickly get a job with health benefits. The more years she works the cheaper her Medicare will eventually be. People earn up to 4 quarters (work credits) per year.

She can buy into Medicare after age 65, but even NOW it is expensive---If she pays Medicare taxes for less than 30 quarters by age 65, the standard Part A premium is $413 for 2017. If she pays into Medicare taxes for 30-39 quarters, the standard Part A premium is $227.

Still, a hefty price, plus of course you would add the Part B premium, which goes up every year; the standard Part B premium amount in 2017 is a minimum of $134).

I find it odd that this becomes a question at this stage, how will she be supporting herslef does she have adequate savings, pension?

You mother must live in the US more than out.  You will be supporting her,  after 5 years under current rules you can buy into Medicare at a price that is currently over 400 a month.  She will never get social security.   If the class for adult children survives she can petition your siblings but it is one of the items that is likely to vanish with immigration reform.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
