What is an Original I864A

I read multiple stories of people getting denied a CR-1 Visa for not having "original" I864A forms which makes no sense to me. I filled out those forms, signed them, then made copies or my spouse. The actual documents that were signed with ball point ink were submitted to the NVC which were then submitted to the Embassy. ( I assume those are the originals that are actually signed?)

 

Why do they ask for originals if they have them in-hand? Or am I mistaking something else for "original I864A"? Can someone clear this up please. I don't my spouse going to the interview and turned down because she is showing them scanned copies even when they have originals in the NVC file.

 

I heard W2 Forms for the last 3 years can be substituted in place of "Original I864A", is this correct? because she also has COPIES of my W2s from 2016,15,14.

Originals are indeed those you signed yourself with a pen.

You should not need a second set, though sometimes they get lost when NVC sends the paperwork to the embassy; usually, when one gets refused due to "no originals", it is because they only sent photocopies.

where do i get originals if the NVC is the ones who misplaced them (FYI my case was expedited after 5 weeks at the nvc due to medical emergency. skipped nvc processing and is in transit to Embassy)

You would write and sign a new set, and send them to your spouse to bring to interview.

That's the issue. Because it's an expedited case, the embassy will review the documents as NVC would have if not expedited, during the interview. So we won't know what the NVC lost or didn't lose until the actual interview. I'm debating on sending her an additional set I made just to be safe.

Currently all she has is Original Civil Documents + A photo copy of all the AOS Files I sent to NVC.

 

Original Job letters and W2s (my W2s and Joint Sponsors W2s) are in my hand. Would it be necessary for my spouse to have the Original W2s in her hand as well as original job letters in her hands during the interview?

 

What else in original form from the AOS files would she need?

- A signed Affidavit of Support from your petitioner and any additional financial sponsors who submitted a Form I-864 on behalf of your visa application.  Applicants may bring photocopies and scanned versions of signed Forms I-864 and associated documents. (Please note that the form must still be signed; typed names and electronic signatures will not be accepted.)

 

- Financial evidence showing your petitioner’s income, such as federal tax returns or forms W-2.  If you have any additional financial sponsors, you must bring the same type of financial evidence for them, along with proof of their legal status in the United States.

 

 

So I guess the I864A can be a scanned copy. So why do I hear some officers at the Embassy make a big deal about having originals on you? I submitted them to the NVC.

 

When they were W2s do they mean originals or copies.....

Ink signatures are no longer required for the document submission as of January 1, 2017:  https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/news/ink-signature-no-longer-required-on-affidavits-of-support.html

 

Embassies may differ based on the case officer she gets but she can always print out the announcement above and show them.  We all know many NVC employees might miss a process change here and there.
