Officer Kept Originals

Our visa is approved! Now we are ready to move to the US!

Before we go we have a question:
At the visa interview, the officer did not return my original birth certificate, court record, or police record to me. He returned only the copies. Will we need to go back and request the originals? Will they be given back to me in my packet with the visa when I retrieve it?

As per USCIS, you shouldn't be submitting the originals unless specified  Might be quite difficult to get them back but definitely try to contact the embassy. Good luck!

I gave the officer both the originals and copies of everything as they requested to bring both and he only gave me my original marriage certificate back.

Hopefully it was just the officer's oversight. But definitely call to ask just to be sure that the originals would be returned to you.

I will be in the area of the Consulate tomorrow to pick up my visa and I think I will stop by and ask for the originals in exchange for the copies or see if they will be returning them back with the visa.

OP is way pass the USCIS phase. OP's had her interview and you bring your originals to the interview.

 

OP, the same happened at my interview, the CO kept both originals and copies and I was too excited to notice.  When I got my visa packet in the mail, the CO had enclosed all my originals separately.  Hopefully, the same happens to you. If not, just contact the embassy and ask for them back.
