She and I got our petition ready, sent in our papers. She's coming to live with me. I have everything sorted.
But she wants to know if there's anything she will need to pay for, as far as the next step.

When we're approved, she read she needs a background check, updated vaccines, her two cats need updated shots and everybody needs a physical.
She has her B.Cert and we're just waiting on the approval for the interview. What costs could she expect, so we can budget better?

At that, will I need to budget some unknowing costs in? (Other than the 250 interview fee, of course)

Thanks everybody!

K-1 visa at the consulate level is $265 :)

And then of course the medical check-up along with the necessary vaccines. Not sure the cost for Canada but you can probably check that on the Canadian consulate info page on VJ. Otherwise, your other bet is look through the subforum of Canada on here.

If she needs to apply for any kind of police certificate, that might cost a small fee too.

What about air tickets? Might want to factor that in if she's flying.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

  • K1 Visa I-129F Fee: $535
  • K1 Visa Consulate Fee: $265
  • Medical Cost: $100-$500 Depending On Vaccines Needed
  • Travel To Montreal For Interview: $500-$1000, K1 Interviews Are Only Held In Montreal
  • Adjustment of Status I-485: $1225

Study up on the US/Canadian Embassy website for specific information: https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee/

Basically, after you get your NOA1 - barring any RFEs, you'll get your NOA2 approval in 2-3 months.  Once approved, your application will be sent to the NVC for processing.

Once at the NVC, they will send your application to the US Embassy in Montreal.  You can call the NVC about 2-3 weeks after your NOA2 is received, and get your NVC # starting with the letters "MTL".  Once you have your NVC #, you can use the link above and download Packet 3.  In Packet 3, you'll find information on the 3 items you will return via the email provided.  Once emailed to the US/Canadian Embassy, you will receive a return email called Packet 4.

In Packet 4, you'll get information/link on how to schedule your interview and medical.  At this time, you will be prompted to pay your $265 Consulate fee.

If you're on a desktop/laptop, you can see my detailed K1 Visa timeline in my signature.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks for posting such detailed info, it's so helpful! I was wondering, did you wait to get Packet 3 in the mail/email? Or did you just go ahead and submit the information for Packet 3 before getting a request for it? We got our MTL number and the notification from the NVC that they are sending our petition to Montreal but I havn't heard anything from the consulate yet. I have everything ready to go and am trying to figure out if I can just go ahead and send it or whether I have to wait to be asked first!

After we got our MTL#, we checked on the CEAC website to show if our status was "READY":

https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx

We did not wait until we received the Packet 3 in the mail, as it is available online.  Once the CEAC shows your status as "READY", you can download the Packet 3 itself off the Canadian Embassy website:

https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee/

Luckily for Canadian filers, everything at this point is done online and via email.  If you read the Packet 3 instructions and email the requested documents in Packet 3, they will return email you Packet 4 instructions on how to schedule your medical and interview.

This process goes fast! You're almost there!  Good luck
