I have a question regarding the I-864/I-864a.  My wife (US Citizen) currently lives in Canada with me so she has no income in the States.  Does that mean we need a joint sponsor?  Or can we use our savings?  I read here http://www.***removed***/affidavit-of-support/i-864p-poverty-guidelines.html that we need $25, 200 in income (as we have a daughter).  I have more than double the minimum income in our savings and when we sell our house closer to the interview that will be another 100-120K.  If we were to show bank statements would that mean we don't need a joint sponsor?

In order to use savings I believe needs to be shown as having had them for some time. Not just, poof there it is in the bank.

Using assets like savings I believe would require/or they would desire to see up to 12 months of banking statements. They want to see consistency.

You could use the house itself as an asset though if it gets appraised and you have an official form showing the value. That could be submitted as evidence of assets.

It might just be easier and less stressful to get a co-sponsor lined up honestly just in case. Probably easiest method.

Our assets are 5x above the limits but it may be easier to use a co-sponsor anyways.  We will go that route and have my wife's brother co-sponsor me.  Does he need to fill out form I-864 or I-864a?

i-864, and the USC still needs to fill out one as well as the main sponsor, just so you don't forget. i-864a is only for household members.
