Tourist visa for mother

Hello everyone! I am a resident here in US and I am planning to apply for a tourist visa for my mother to come and visit me here. Does anyone have tried applying a tourist visa for their parents? What are the possible questions they will ask her during the interview? And what are the documents she needs to have? I am from Philippines by the way. Thank you all for your reply!

You don't apply for your mother's tourist visa.

She needs to apply on her own and present her own ties to her home country.

You can help your mother apply for the visa by guiding her but you do not apply for a visitor visa for her. She applies on her own merits.

 

The biggest things she must show is ties to her own country and that she will return. Usually owning properties or business, well paying job, travel history to other places or things like that.

She needs to be the one applying. You can help her fill out paperwork and such, but that's it. It will only hurt her case if there is somebody else supporting her within the US. As others noted, she needs to prove ties to return home. Having an immediate relative in the US is a tie to the US, so the evidence needs to also overcome that.

 

They are likely to ask why she's coming, when she's leaving, what she does for a living, how will she pay for the trip, etc.

The MOST important thing for her to present is WHY she will go back to the Philippines.  People have already mentioned good things - but if your mother does not own property or does not work, then she will need to figure out how to show she is going home.

 

1.  Is your mother married, divorced or widowed?  If she is married, then it makes a lot of sense for her to return to the Philippines!

2.  Does your mother still have minor children at home?  If so, that is a good reason that she will return.

3.  Does your mother work?  If so, then a letter from her employer stating her leave dates and the date she is expected to return will help.  Does your mother own her own business?  Then that is a good reason that she will return.

 

These are the things your mother will need to explain when she requests a visa.  If she is alone, doesn't work, and has no business ties to the Philippines, I fear they will suspect that she might try to stay in the US with you.
