My K1 fiance will be married the end of March, right when his K1 visa expire. We will file for the official license (and receive it the same day) on the Monday following the ceremony. We will also file the AOS papers once married. My question is can we travel within the states by plane even though his visa is expire AND the SOS papers is still in the mail on its way to be possessed? 

 

Also...just curious...if we are married prior to the expiration of the visa can we wait to file AOS, if so how long?

YES you can. Just have him carry along with him his NOA1 (I797) as a proof that he had already submitted AOS just waiting for USCIS to process it.

There is no deadline as to when one should file AOS BUT NOTE that once your fiance's I-94 expires and had not filed for AOS, he is literally out of status. He can be placed under deportation proceedings if caught during immigration raids and inspections.

Yes you can travel within the USA. 

With the current immigration climate I would file for AOS asap.  Your fiancé/then spouse will be considered out of status until you do so.
