Hello all :)

A week ago I went to the social security office to apply for a SSN. That was completely successful I mean , I had all the documents printed off  but the lady told me she couldn't find my name. She still issued a letter with my name on it , a reference number and it is basically a statement saying that I applied for a social security number . I was able to track the application via SAVE and it was saying that on the 16th my application was in Maryland. Not much I could do but i was supposed to receive a letter soon , to see if I was approved however , bad surprise this afternoon , I received that letter from Social security administration when I read that "we cannot issue you a social security card at this time because : Your legal immigration status and/or document(s) will expire before an SSN can be issued to you. please come back in with a Renewed I-94.

Alright so here is a few points about my documents

- I printed off the latest I-94 and it expires on April 24th ( I didn't provided the travel history)

- form SS5 filled out completely and she kept it

- form I-765 , I filled out It completely but she said she didn't need it , therefore I kept it and it is still in my folder along with my others documents.

I'm going back to the social security office next Thursday , What could I do on my own to try to make things better ? What is that renewed I-94 they are talking about ?

I had the very latest version of it !

Anyone had such a problem with getting their social security number too ?

I would not like going to their office for nothing and be disappointed once again

Thank you for your answer ;) I'm glad this might not be a major problem but instead a mistake by them. I'm afraid I can't provide any answers to them , because for some reasons they need that renewed I-94. So far if i understood there is no way to renew it ? You can apply for a new one but I don't know if that is what they meant by that :0 I'm so confused

Your I-94 should show just last time tou entered as a K-1 and you wrote it is good until April so you are fine.

Just take it again with all your other documents.

Make sure they enter your information exactly as it is on the i-94. If they miss anything it won't verify.

I made sure that everything would be typed correctly , the employee literally tried twice and apparently there is a huge problem in their system because when they are searching for my name they are unable to find it , it says "name doesn't match" which is really scary because I have no clue about how serious this can be !!

All we did is to re apply and this time I provided my birth certificate ( not sure how that could help me ) and the latest I-94 I printed off this morning.

He also let them a message on the package but I'm being a bit desperate because he was really keen to help and we stayed forever , if the local security office can't fix the problem then who can ? DHS ? It seems to be like there is a glitch with my name and who could solve that ?

Well, you can contact a CBP defered inspection office. I did by email, and emailed them scanned documents they asked for to have them check if something in my records wasn't matching. You can also go in person.

They wanted passport, bio-page, visa-page and stamps...boarding passes.. I believe...

Atleast that is smth you can double check while you are waiting...

Thank you so very much for your answer , I guess I will certainly contact them by email , there is no way that something has been fixed this morning that's for sure. I will work on how to contact them by email I hope everything will be fixed soon.

The SAVE database has been updated successfully exactly like a week ago when we originally applied

No problem. So they sent it off for manual verification then? If the check with CBP turns out that everything looks fine on their part and SSO sent it off for manual verification you are in for a few weeks of waiting... but at the end it should come out fine. That's what happened to me. It was just annoying waiting  cause you know your i-94 expires.. you should be fine though.. even with a longer waiting time.

They have the option of scanning all the documents but my SSO didn't do that... that would result in a level 2 SAVE check (3-5 business days normally) instead of a level 3 (manual 4+ weeks).

May I ask... do you have a middle name that could have been entered as a first name or a name where any other sort of confusion could occur when transcribing it?

I mean... common or logic mistakes.. typos can always occur ofc...

I guess it could be a manual verification , I mean we are now waiting for that letter to come in the mail and see if we are approved or not . I'm tempted to directly email DHS and see what could be wrong with my I-94 or whatever. however I'm also thinking about waiting their answer and see what other excuse we will be given this time in case we are denied :(

About the middle name , yes I had the chance to get asked a couple of time about my first name and middle and I don't know where the problem could be from :(

it could be a simply mistake when typing I guess :)

what kind of problem pushed you to contact them by email ?

Waiting 8 weeks hahahaha

I was like... hold up... what the heck is the problem here?! Lol

Well I contacted them after 6 weeks.

After sending the documents they asked for by email, I got the answer that my record is fine and no changes needed to be made at this time. It made me feel better to have checked it..

They couldn't enter my name at all cause of the three first names not fitting in the firstname box in the software... 16 char limit.. like seriously retarded... why on earth impose such an arbitrary limit... smh.. stone age...

Oh waoh !! I can't even imagine , you must have needed a lot of patience ;)

glad they said it wasn't necessary to make any change , I might have to contact them , I will be waiting to hear from SSA and see what they say ;)

i really didn't know that you could contact them by email though and I found the page. Do you have a DHS office nearby there in Texas ?

those letters in the name can be a real pain seriously :(

lol yes... patience ..lots of patience... but on the other hand..not like you have a choice lol

I landed at Dallas-Fort Worth airport, but the office I had contact with was the Houston one :) I also didn't know about the email option at first... I just happened to find it. People on VJ had told me I'd have to go in person, but that wasn't the case.
