The system is completely broken - massively inefficient and badly under-staffed

A pity they don't put more effort and resources into mending it (is that even possible?)

shamefull

So I have a two-fold question.

Firstly: please could someone point me to the list of things I would need to bring with me when I eventually have success in booking an appointment to get an extension on my 1 year I-797 extension letter?

and

Secondly (and more troubling to my mind: When I go to the USCIS site to check the status of my case, I get an error message saying that the receipt number is not recognized. I get the same message when I called the National Customer Service Center number. Any advice or words of comfort before my brain melts?

(and while i'm here, thanks everyone for all the help and community provided on this board!)

How long it takes to receive the actual card? My approval letter dated Dec 17 and I have not received the card yet.

I think on average you should receive the card in the mail about 3 weeks from the date on your letter. However, most likely your status online will change to "card is in production" and then 3 days later "card is mailed" so you will know to wait for it.

Bring your expire GC, extension letter and passport.  They will stamp the I55-1 on your passport which is the proof of your residency in the country. It would be good to bring any form of picture I.D although not required.

Secondly, Use the number on your biometric notice to track your case. The tracking number on the top right of your biometric notice. Keep in mind the USCIS tracking system is not going to tell you anything except "we received your case on a specific date etc" Since you are CSC applicant you have to wait for few more months before you hear anything from USCIS. Let's hope CSC pick up some speed.
