I just met my boyfriend in london 2weeks ago for the first time after being in a relationship for 1 year, so we celebrated our 1st anniversary there, the thing is we were there for only 3 days cause he couldnt get more days off work and we are thinking about filing for the k1 visa now, is 3days together enough for the having met in person requirement?

Please fill in your timeline for better advice.

I don't know if you are the petitioner or beneficiary.

Is the beneficiary a national from Mauritius ( your profile flag) ?

Does s/he reside in London or Mauritius ?

One visit of a mere 3 days is not sufficient for the embassy in Nairobi where he would be interviewed (unless he legally

resides in London). Even for the easy embassy in London a national from Mauritius would face more scrutiny with such a

short visit.

I advise to visit more and spend time together to have a good amount of quality relationship evidence to submit

with the petition. Front load the petition.

3 days is enough for your I-129F application as it fulfills the qualification of having met within the last 2 years. But I doubt you're going to get approved during the K1 visa application at the embassy. You will need way more face time and evidence of a bona fide relationship.

I am the beneficiary, my boyfriend is from the US and i'm from Mauritius. We haven't filed for the fiance visa petition yet, still gathering information. The meeting was so short because he couldnt get more days off work (he actually used his sick leave) he wont get a vacation leave from work until 2018. And we met in london as it was easier for him and that way we got to spend more time together (he would have had to take 2 flights to come to my country of 18hours, that would have been more than a day of travelling including the layover). And there's no way i could go meet him to the US as i would need a tourist visa for that and i obviously wouldnt be able to say im going to meet my boyfriend that would get me rejected instantly, it would be suspicious for me to go alone. I dont even have family members in the US. Also the interview for the k1 is being held in South Africa now for mauritians, no longer in Nairobi.

So what's the London connection? Are you working or studying in London? It might be worth applying for a tourist visa for the USA if you have demonstrated a good travel history to other countries - the U.K. included.

I would put in the 129f as you have met but I would spend more face time while the application is processed.

I met my now husband in 2015 didn't go back for a year then spent 18 days and I submitted the app. Then while it processed I went two more times. Provided one trip with my RFE I received for another issue and the third trip at the interview.

DR is a high fraud country but I didn't have any issues. I also didn't provide any chats or emails just trips and tons of pictures ;)

Good luck ?

We met in london as its closer to the US and i didnt need a any visa beforehand to go there.

Certainly understandable why you chose that route. Some CO's would prefer that your family has met him too but perhaps he

can skype with them and you make screenshots.

SA embassy is easier than Nairobi so that's a good thing.

Some people can combine holidays with a weekend and take time off without pay, hopefully that would be an option

to get another visit in while you wait for the process.

Mauritius is a beautiful place, wish I was there, I hope the USA lives up to your expectations.

Wishing you the best.

You can't take that for granted. There are members here who were granted tourist visas even when saying they were visiting their boyfriend/girlfriend. It's not that unusual for tourists to travel alone, too. Mauritius-US can be very expensive depending on the time of year you fly, but I would suggest doing some research on airfare and trying for a tourist visa.

Thank you all for replying. I understand what you mean but i will need atleast $2800 for a round trip and for me to get approved for a tourist visa i will need to have a big bank balance. ? We contacted several immigration lawyers though and they said 3days is fine, didn't see any red flags in our case and we are working on gathering evidences now and plan to file for the i-129f petition in december.

If you made it to London it's not much more to get to Boston, for example. I assume you paid for a hotel in London. The cost of they would cover the host to the east coast from London . Check out the prices with the likes of Norwegian Air, for example. Just had a look for January and they have round-trip tickets for approximately $300. You won't have accommodation costs in the USA and he won't have to buy a ticket to London. So why not try and meet in the USA and meet his family also?

It is almost impossible for single woman from non-ESTA countries to get a visa to the USA. Especially if they are honest. My girl was summarily denied with no discussion. My work is hostile to my travelling to see her and my job is intense so it is almost impossible for me to get away. The income differential is enormous. My take home in a week is more than she makes in a year. But the state department decrees that the USC must travel to meet his foreign bride (except for ESTA).

There are two K1 universes on this forum. ESTA countries and non-ESTA countries. For non-ESTA, the USC has to find a way to get away and travel enough to satisfy the somewhat arbitrary judgement of a Consular Officer.
