What will Trump do after the election if he loses? Apart from more angry tweets, it's hard to imagine him leading some kind of crusade to take vengeance upon the Republicans who betrayed him simply because it would be too much work. The idea that Trump and his famously short attention span will want to invest time and effort into building some kind of outsider political movement with uncertain rewards stretches the imagination. It's much more likely that he'll bid politics goodbye and go back to licensing his (much diminished) brand.

But before we get to that point, Trump and Republicans in Congress could be posing a new danger to each other the worse their relationship gets. As my friend the political scientist Thomas Schaller observes, this infighting could produce a two-way roll-off effect that we haven't seen before. Roll-off is when some people vote for president, but don't bother voting for other offices; it happens to a degree in every election, usually because some voters just aren't interested in the other races or don't know who to vote for. But this year, the anger of Trump supporters "raises the prospect that some of these Trump voters will show up on election day, vote Trump, and spite some or all downballot Republican candidates by skipping these contests. This would magnify the normal roll-off effect," he says. At the same time, "a significant number of reliable Republican voters may skip the presidential [ballot] but vote for some or all of the remaining races." The result could be "lost votes for Trump at the presidential level and lost votes at the sub-presidential level for all other Republicans. That is the disaster scenario for the GOP."

Now maybe that won't happen. Maybe Republicans will stop defecting from Trump, and they'll all kiss and make up before election day. Or maybe there'll be yet another Trump scandal, causing even more Republicans to defect, Trump will get even angrier at them, and the feud will deepen. I know which one I think is more likely.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, speaking at a Tuesday fundraiser here, continued to call out members of his own party for not being fully supportive of him, including U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, who he accused of "total disloyalty to the party."

Trump promised to be "fighting like hell" until Nov. 8, but expressed frustration with resistance in his own party especially from Ryan, who announced Monday he would focus on down-ballot races in the home stretch to Election Day. Republicans like Ryan, Trump complained, have been missing in action as his campaign has sought to regain its footing in recent weeks.

Great to see he slipped of those shackles and is whining away! I was worried about Donald being held captive in his own gilded cage in an alternative reality.

Trumps rise could partly be explained by his supporters authoritarian tendencies.

Gov. Paul LePage (R-ME), a staunch Trump backer, seems to agree. On a radio show Tuesday, he said that he wonders if the Constitution is broken and the United States might need a Donald Trump to show some authoritarian power.

Republicans are more crooked than Hillary and the media Trump declares war on establishment Republicans

WASHINGTON — Ripping the band aid off deep divisions within the Republican Party, Donald Trumpdeclared war Tuesday on GOP members who have turned against him and vowed to continue campaigning as he sees fit.

"It is so nice that the shackles have been taken off me and I can now fight for America the way I want to," Trump said during a tweet storm that targeted House Speaker Paul Ryan and other members of a skeptical Republican establishment.

Later, the Republican presidential nominee tweeted: "Disloyal R's are far more difficult than Crooked Hillary. They come at you from all sides. They don’t know how to win — I will teach them!"

Trump's newly aggressive attacks on other Republicans underscore a massive breach within the party, one that makes it even harder for the GOP to hold control of the Senate and perhaps the House, much less win the presidency.

"The GOP has a suicide bomber as their nominee," said Texas-based political consultant Matt Mackowiak.

Trump erupted a day after Ryan told House Republicans he would no longer defend or campaign with the GOP nominee in the wake of the fallout over a tape in which Trump is heard making vulgar comments about women.

Carson said in a brief interview that Trump would be wise to praise Ryan rather than be at war with him. I keep trying to emphasize to him that the issues are where you win.

But many others rallied around Trump, including the Republican National Committee. Its chairman, Reince Priebus, was in close touch all day with Trump advisers and RNC strategist Sean Spicer was at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Mica Mosbacher, a Trump fundraiser and surrogate, said she was invited to a fundraiser next week for Ryans joint fundraising committee but is not going to attend or contribute because of the way Ryan has treated him.

I dont feel that Ryan is supporting our nominee and being a team player, said Mosbacher, who is vowing not to give financial backing to Republicans who have crossed Trump.

Diana Orrock, a Republican National Committeewoman from Nevada, said she is not voting for Republicans who pulled their support Trump including Rep. Joe Heck (Nev.), who is running for a seat that is critical in the battle for the Senate majority.

Nebraska Sen. Deb Fischer on Tuesday reversed her call for Donald Trump to resign from the GOP ticket, telling a local radio station that it's "not a tough choice" to back him just three days after she urged him to quit.

"I plan to vote for Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence on November 8," she said on Nebraska's KLIN. "I put out a statement ... with regard to Mr. Trump's comments. I felt they were disgusting. I felt they were unacceptable and I never said I was not voting for our Republican ticket."

What Fischer had actually said was that "It would be wise for [Trump] to step aside and allow Mike Pence to serve as our party's nominee."

She said in the radio interview that she would no longer advocate that position because Trump had already made up his mind. (In fact, Trump tweeted barely an hour after Fischer's call, that he would "never" quit the race.)
