What's the difference between 1040 and IRS tax transcript

 Share

Hi, my F works in Military and he said he does not have copies of his 1040 tax return forms since he filed them online. What he sent me are the tax transcripts from 2013-2015 that he requested via fax from IRS. Are we good with these? I have his W2 and LES too.

Will the Consul accept tax transcript instead of 1040 form?

Thanks

The 1040 is a form you claim you will file with the IRS. The IRS tax transcript is proof that the form was actually filed and accepted by the IRS. :)

You are good. They actually PREFER the transcripts since they come directly from the IRS.

I agree with Sukie, the tax return transcripts are BETTER.

Thank you so much. I will try to ask him if he can still access it, if not I will go to my interview with the transcripts. Thanks

You are better off bringing the transcripts to your interview. If you bring the 1040 instead, you will also need to bring all the schedules and W-2s that accompanied the 1040 when it was sent to the IRS. The tax transcript includes all that information so nothing additional is required.

My fiancé sent me only the 1040 papers for 2013 to 2015 but no w2s. Is that a problem?

Yes. You send the ENTIRE tax return including all schedules and w2s etc.. or the tax return transcripts.

Thanks for your response. I have the form 8879, form 1040, schedule c(form 1040) about 8 pages. Will that be okay? I'm so confused now as I have my interview next week.

No. How did he get paid? Is he self employed? Does he work at a regular job? You need either the 1099 from self employment or the w2. Otherwise this isn't a complete and entire tax return, you'll get a 221g at interview and have to wait longer. I suggest you get your fiance to email you a tax return transcript. They can get it from an IRS office the same day.

Thanks for your reply. Please does he have to go to the irs office in person to get the transcripts or online? I have 2 working days to my interview. Do I need original or photocopy of the transcriptsite?
