Hello guys! I just have a few questions about applying SSN.

I arrived here in U.S. through K1 visa on August 24,2016. We getting married this 2nd week of September ( :dancing: is coming...)

Now my question is when is the best time to apply for SSN. I've read that I can apply for SSN 2 weeks after I arrive in the US. Also, we getting married few days from now.

I am kind of hesitant about applying before the marriage.

Please help. Thank you in advance!

Apply today in your maiden name. You can change it to your married name later. It's just easy.

You can apply before marriage with your maiden name on it but if you want to have your married name on it, you can go ahead and apply once you have your marriage certificate. They don't accept the photocopied license. It might take a while for your married name SSN to arrive though.

Do it now, print out your i94 from the website/

https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/consent.html;jsessionid=h5qnXTvJVLgBDn4Tm7QyTbndFHRBY5tpXDnrr7pTLL8XpWRGTZGY!-713211296

You dont need to be married. Passport, possibly birth certificate in English (depending on who you ask but passport trumps everything for identification and age) and i94, you dont need to wait two weeks, you can do it as soon as you have the i94. Usually you can get that within 24 hours or less passing through POE. In addition SS is federal government and cant have different criteria state to state. Ive never heard of anyone requiring a marriage license or marriage certificate.

Let us know how you do!
