I've talked to quite a few supporters, and none of them can tell my why they like Trump outside of he's a straight shooter or they don't want to vote for Hillary. It's not lazy, but very accurate. I'll show you how. Trump is only popular BECAUSE of what he's said. Because outside of that, what's appealing about him? His track record with business isn't stellar, his insight isn't deep, and the birther mess, he shouldn't have even been given the stage. Even the article Val posted shows that conservatives within the GOP aren't in his corner.

Everything that's pushing him forward has been racially charged. He hasn't made one statement that isn't designed to shock or awe his audience. That's his appeal.

you forgot that trump doesn't read. bring on the first twitter prez! I CAN HAZ THA POWR!

He said in a series of interviews that he does not need to read extensively because he reaches the right decisions “with very little knowledge other than the knowledge I [already] had, plus the words ‘common sense,’ because I have a lot of common sense and I have a lot of business ability.”

Trump said he is skeptical of experts because “they can’t see the forest for the trees.” He believes that when he makes decisions, people see that he instinctively knows the right thing to do: “A lot of people said, ‘Man, he was more accurate than guys who have studied it all the time.’ ”

Trump’s approach to understanding complex issues and reaching decisions is not unique in the annals of the presidency. Historians who have studied presidential styles depict a divide between men such as President Obama or presidents Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon, who were given to reading extensively ahead of important decisions, and presidents Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, who preferred to have issues presented to them in short memos or orally.

“We’ve had good presidents of both styles,” said David Greenberg, a presidency historian at Rutgers University. “There’s a kind of danger when intellectuals and journalists see these presidents who don’t read much and scorn them as being not so swift. There’s some political prejudice there on the part of liberals against these business types who have a different executive style.”

Trump’s approach goes beyond the chief executive manner of Reagan or the younger Bush. “We’ve had presidents who have reveled in their lack of erudition,” said Allan Lichtman, a political historian at American University, citing Warren Harding and Lyndon Johnson as leaders who scoffed at academics and other experts. “But Trump is really something of an outlier with this idea that knowing things is almost a distraction. He doesn’t have a historical anchor, so you see his gut changing on issues from moment to moment.”

One day last month, Trump had a visit from a delegation of prominent executives in the oil, steel and retail industries, and one of the executives told Trump that the Chinese were taking advantage of the United States. “He said, ‘I’d like to send you a report,’ ” Trump recalled. “He said, ‘I’d love to be able to send you’ — oh boy, he’s got a lengthy report, hundreds of pages. . . . I said, ‘Do me a favor: Don’t send me a report. Send me, like, three pages.’ ”

Trump said reading long documents is a waste of time because he absorbs the gist of an issue very quickly. “I’m a very efficient guy,” he said. “Now, I could also do it verbally, which is fine. I’d always rather have — I want it short. There’s no reason to do hundreds of pages because I know exactly what it is.”

You seem to invest a lot of time excusing Trump...why excuse him? Isn't bad behavior bad behavior? Would you excuse yourself if you said those things ( take your pick) in those ways?

I'm not excusing him, that's not what the conversation is even about. I've even already said that's one of the main reasons we decided we won't be voting for him. This is about those that are going to be voting and why that may be, and how not everything is caused by racism. Even if he didn't say some of the stupid things he says, I still couldn't get behind him for reasons I explained in my own thread that have to do with the fact I am looking for someone who will at the very least reign in the Federal Reserve, and neither Trump, nor Clinton, nor Obama for that matter is one of those people. Rand Paul would have been my pick...

The fact they don't want Hillary is a huge part of it. As I said, some of his opinions are actually much less conservative than the typical conservative candidate. This helps alot of people who wouldn't want to vote for Hillary normally, but might because of social issues, sway them to vote for him this time, because they can't stand her.

trump certainly isn't going to win all the right's vote, a demographic here and there, but mostly i feel like, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, squeaky wheel being the buffoonery that is trump, media being the lube.

i'm sure this helps him with that holy section of the gop..https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2016/06/22/trump-evangelical-board-stacked-anti-lgbt-activists

In 2008, Obama said that Hillary Clinton was a "corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart."

Suddenly ,after a time has passed she is more than qualified to be President.

If you are going to quote...please get it right

As a candidate in 2008 In comparing his efforts as a community organizer which he says made him in touch with the common man on the street....

""While I was working on those streets watching those folks see their jobs shift overseas, you were a corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart," Obama said."

He never said that her years as first lady, 8 years in the Senate or 4 years after that quote as Secretary of State were not great preparation for this job.

I can't stand her, but there's no way I'd vote for Trump. His comments about Muslims, people of Mexican descent, and just all around ignorance about all the issues have seen to that. And even if you don't want Clinton, you really shouldn't vote for any candidate that says the things he does.

America's best bet is for Hillary to win and then have a 1945 or 1901 type event so we end up with Kaine.

(is that bad?)

Generally, wishing someone dead is frowned upon in polite society

I actually caught myself a few days looking at Theresa May and thinking..."Please teach Hillary and Angela how to dress"

Where is NB to weigh in with some sexist drivel when we need him?

Even about 20% of Sanders supporters are expected to vote for Trump. So he has a certain appeal to certain demographics when it comes to certain areas and it's not all racial. His whole trade thing(which I completely disagree with, btw) attracts some of them. Some of his social views. Some workers(again, partially the Sanders supporters) actually believe him he will bring jobs back. It all plays a part. Obviously we both know it's not going to happen, but I'm just pointing it out to those that think it's all because he's foaming at the mouth about minorities.

Well, we're personally not going to. Like I said, I don't really see a difference between any of them anyway, they're all part of the same machine.

That's the part that scares me. Clinton is a crook, but at least she plays the part of politician. Trump isn't one but still lies and backstabs with the best of them.

alert: I am expecting a beat down here not from you but from the illustrious CEHEST body

Break down this crookedness angle from your perspective for me : Pay for Play? Donations to the Clinton Foundation? Paid Speeches?

or is it nothing about money and donations and just about integrity on the job?

Because I have to say..I think she served the country well as Senator and Country well as Secretary of State. I

Here is the best rollup i could find of the facts:

In my mind just because The Trumpmeister continues to repeat the label crooked, it makes me believe the opposite... like that logic problem about which road you should take because one of the guys is always a liar but you don't know which one.
