Schengen visa with AP

Yes you can apply for schengen visa with AP. I did that 3 months ago at the german consulate in Houston and had no issue at all. Just last week I applied for the French visa and was also successful.

AP does not prove permanent residency. In the case of applying for schengen visa it just serves the purpose of a proof that you will be able to return to the US. Just bring your AP card and a copy when you go apply for the schengen visa, you will be fine.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing the info.

If even German consulate accepted it - then there should be no problems with other EU states.

No problem. Bigger European countries seem to have had more experience with AP people, if it happens to be a smaller country they might not recognize it at first but you just need to explain to them and ask for a supervisor if necessary. When I applied for the German and French visa, and when I was at the airport in Amsterdam, some staff didn't know what AP was and had to ask their coworkers. They told me it's because AP is not as common and some people had never seen it before.

Good luck!

Schenegen does not cover all EU states.

I am planning to go to Europe (Italy then Germany) with my Filipino wife about 3 weeks after my AOS interview. I'm hoping to have the AP before that and apply for a Schengen visa through Italy, since it is the country we will be arriving at.

If I understand correctly, the application is asking for the alien registration number. Is that number on the AP card? Did you have to appear at the embassy in person? I thought we can get it done by mail.

How long did it take after you applied for the visa to actually have it in hand?

thank you

I think the A-number is the one on the paper notices (i.e. biometrics) that you received. I did have to go to the embassy in person for an interview, but I think it depends on the country you are applying and your local embassy. Most likely it's required to apply in person.

I applied at the German embassy earlier this year which took 2-3 days. Last month I applied at the French embassy - I got the visa the next business day.

I applied for Greek Schengen 2 weeks ago even without AP or Green Card - just with AOS paper receipt with A-number.

All Schengen states collect your fingerprints when applying, so you must make an appointment and appear in person.

Picked up passport in a week with 1-year multi-schengen.

Thank you all for your replies. This is weighing heavily on me.

I didn't realize that biometrics was a part of every Schengen visa, that is my oversight, now I'm trying to make this happen, if at all possible.

I'm wondering; do I need to have either the AP or Green card in hand when I make an appearance at the embassy? I won't have either until, hopefully, later in September, so should I try to time the appointment after my AOS interview?

The only reason I made travel arrangements this early is because my father is ill and my wife is pregnant. If we don't go now, we will quite possibly not be able to see him at all. I'm banking on passing the AOS interview and/or receiving the AP within the next 3 weeks or so.

I'll gladly make the 6 hour drive to the embassy and do whatever it takes, I'm just confused as to how to time it right, since I need to make the appointment soon, I assume.

Thank you for sharing your experiences
