Consulate Review: United Arab Emirates
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 5, 2016
Embassy Review : My fiancee had the interview at the US embassy Abu Dhabi yesterday. She said that it was very short.
We had booked a hotel (Novo Hotel) close by. From there you can either take a quick taxi ride (no minimum charge here) or just make the 15 minute walk to the embassy.
She arrived at around 7am. She said that the staff, including the officer that interviewed her, was very nice. The worst part was the 2 hour wait. The interview itself was short and simple. He asked her just a few basic questions;
Are you engaged?
When and how did you meet?
How many times have you seen each other since you met?
What countries have you been to?

A few more, but she couldn't recall, she was too excited and had only slept 2 hours the night before.
He took a copy of my passport, some of her medical documents, my tax statements, but most of what she brought was not needed.
The officer then congratulated her and said she could pick up the visa on Monday.
Friendly, professional staff. Overall, a very good experience.
Rating : Very Good

Embassy Review : Very good experience at JFK

After standing in line at the Non-US citizen counters for over an hour, I asked someone about using the US Citizens line, which was empty at the time.
We were told that it should be no problem as long as one of us was a US citizen. So we moved over.

At the counter, the officer was very friendly. He took our passports, made some notes and casually reminded us of the requirements around the timing and expiration dates of a K1 visa.
At no point was my fiancee asked to go to a separate office or leave the counter. The officer was very friendly, made her feel welcome and it was all over in less than 10 minutes. We actually had to ask if there was anything else that we had to do, because it was so easy and fast and weren't sure if we had missed something

Very pleasant experience at JFK.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
