Hi Everybody! May I please make a suggestion? If you are new to this thread, PLEASE go to the top of the thread and read the FIRST POST from our Moderator, DWheels76. Many of us have contributed to this "How-To" and "FAQ" document. There is a lot of knowledge there, and MANY links to help you gain information.

Some of the same questions are being asked over and over and over. While I know there is a lot of excitement, those of us who try to answer your questions get very tired of answering them multiple times.

I know (especially by the end of the month!) there are many pages to read through, but those of you who take the time to actually read the pages from top to bottom will gain a LOT of knowledge.

I've heard people say "Oh, there are just too many pages to read - I don't have time to sit down and go through them all." Those of us who have been through the process, and who stick around to help people, have busy lives, too. We love people who help themselves by learning as much as possible, and we read every post, month after month. We volunteer our time. Help us out!

It's almost time for interview scheduling!!! Many of you will be getting great news in the next week. So here are some basic answers for you...

1. Most of you will get your interview date by phone because you will call NVC because you are so anxious about getting that special date. When you see scheduling start (watch this forum!), then it is usually a good thing to start calling. DWheels76 tries to announce when the big-volume countries (Nigeria, India, Mexico, Jamaica, etc.) start scheduling.

2. It usually takes ONE WEEK after your interview is scheduled to get the official email (the P4 letter) from NVC with your interview date. So if you call, and the service rep says "Oh, your interview was just scheduled today!", then WAIT. You'll get that email within 7 days, but usually not before. The letter will tell you exactly what documents are necessary. Read DWheels76 FIRST POST for more explanations of what all the codes mean.

3. Your status will remain "At NVC" until your case file is sent to your Embassy/Consulate. The case file will not leave NVC until 2-4 weeks prior to your interview. The instant your case is put into the DHL system, your status will change to "In Transit".

4. It takes 3-7 days for your file to reach your Embassy/Consulate. When your case file has been scanned into the Embassy/Consulate's system, your status will change to "Ready".

5. If you want to ask for an earlier interview (especially if your interview is several weeks out), you cannot contact your Embassy/Consulate until your status is "Ready". They won't know who you are before then. See DWheels76's FIRST POST for a sample request letter.

6. Questions about the Medical process for your country are VERY country-specific. Go to DWheels76's FIRST POST for the link to your country's portal to get answers about the medical for your country.

If you would like, you can try calling and asking about your interview date again on Friday because I'm sure by then they would've scheduled you already Don't drive yourself crazy by calling everyday.
