Hello, I recently returned from visiting my husband in England. I am wanting to apply for fiance visa for him to join me here so we can start our life together. With that being said I'm not sure where to begin. He has been in England for 16 years as a refugee, however they denied his case. He has been on the deportation list since 2004, but they say his country is too dangerous to send him back. He is originally from Iraq. At this moment he's having a hard time getting his passport he may need to go back to Iraq to get it. I am wondering if anyone has any advice, or knows anyone who had this kind of situation? I'm wanting to get a lawyer, but I can't really afford one. Does anyone know any good lawyers who are reasonably priced?

Is the religious ceremony considered a legal marriage? Also, if he is not your husband, stop calling him that if you want a successful K1 visa process.

good luck

We just had a religious ceremony, we can't legally marry because of his status there. Thank you for the information I will look her up!

if he is Muslim you signed an Islamic marriage contract at the religious ceremony, you are married. Your only option is an cr1/ir1

You will need not just any lawyer, you will need a good lawyer for him. Even with a lawyer you will expect USCIS to dig every little detail from his past to find out everything about him not to mention the police clearance/certificate from both Iraq and England ...good luck!!
