Ok i am hoping someone can clear something up for me. I'm a little confused. We filed our I-751 a few weeks ago. Yestreday my husband got his NOA1. But it said his conditional resident status is extended for one year. Why only one year? Isn't the green card supposed to last like 10 years? Does this mean we have to do this again next year? Or does this mean they rejected our application and only are giving him a one year extention? Someone please explain.

Well it takes a while to get the 10 year green card, they don't work fast! So that letter makes the conditional card valid until during the process

The one extension is for processing of the removal of conditions- the 10 year greencard. It allows you to continue working and acts as the greencard so that you may also travel internationally. You should get a another notice for the bio-metrics. Most do not receive any notice after this until the 10 year greencard is approved, an RFE is sent, notice for an interview or a denial. This process can take a year or more in some cases. WE filed in July 2015 for my husband's and have not heard anything yet, other than the first NOA1 and then the bio=metrics a month later.

They send a letter extending your greencard while it's being processed. Once they process your paperwork, you'll get the 10 year greencard. May I suggest reading some threads and doing a few searches on vj.

The one-year extension letter is standard USCIS procedure. The intent that your ROC petition will be adjudicated within the year. Upon adjudication and approval, you will receive a 10-year Green Card.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)

hi

as other's have said, the 2 year GC will have expired before you get the 10 year GC, since the process takes 6 months or more

so it is standard, that while you are in process, you can legally work and travel during the wait, everyone who removes conditions get the extension for 1 year
