Hi,

I came on IR1 and recieved my green card. Today i met with my friend who also have green card and he had medicaid from last five years. (NY) From my understanding Medicaid will effect citizenship but he took me to metroplus and there was guy and he also say it wont effect. But i am not sure. Please Senior members guide me i am not sure. I dont have any insurance plan right now. I am working on that.

I find online this.

Applying for Medicaid or CHIP does not make someone a public charge. It will not affect someone's chances of becoming an LPR or US citizen. The one exception is for individuals receiving long-term care in an institution at government expense. These people may face barriers getting a green card.

I understood NY was different to the norm.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I understood NY was different to the norm.

Is it state funded rather than federally?

I know MN has a state funded option for immigrants not eligible for medicaid and for those who make too much money.
