Hi all

I want to know, how long does it takes to get SSN after applying with EAD? I applied on May 5th and was told that they need to do a security check on me and its gonna take up to 4 weeks..? I tried to apply for SSN with I-94 before, but they denied it because it was too close to my i-94 being expired (10 days to expired) I really need my SSN for opening a bank account and to get my license.. it's so stressful to just sit at home and not doing anything... :halloween:

Same thing happened to my husband. It took a week for him to get his SSN. He didn't need a SSN to open a joint bank account with me at Wells Fargo though!

So I basically freaked out and intercepted my package. I saw people say they got denied when they didn't send a new medical. The officer I spoke to the first time put in a service request for me to say I shouldn't have got that letter because my medical is not expired but at this point I don't want to risk denial. I'm at the medical office waiting for a new medical :( it really sucks. At least they dropped the price since my vaccines are less than 6 months old.

I would have understood if I had a letter saying they don't have it (because they lost it) but they said mine was expired. It's incredibly infuriating. My exam was less than 6 months ago!

Another frustrating thing is that this rfe does not show up on my case tracking. It feels like it doesn't exist in their system. It also means I won't see if they receive my new expensive medical. I'm so anxiety ridden from this entire process. I pray that this medical is the last thing they need from me.

Thanks for checking in though :)

Oh no :/ I'm sorry to hear that. USCIS is so strange. I wish they could have just told you that they needed a new medical. Well at least that is sent off and all you can do is wait for them to receive it. Keep us updated!

I have not heard anything since the service request was filed. Will keep you posted. Hope you hear soon too.

awesome thx!

Finally got the notice of approval for the AP and card being produced for the EAD - so ecstatic to begin making travel plans to see family we've been waiting on this for so long.

Now onto the next worry: if we are out of town and the mail notice for interview arrives how long before the notice is mailed and the actual interview to take place. Is it usually scheduled atleast a month out? Sooner is better of course but worried it would come and be scheduled next week and we would be out of town.

Has anyone gotten their interview notice in the updates online ? and how far out from notice were you scheduled ?

We had our status change for the I485 and it listed the interview date on there. We then got the actual letter a few days later I think. We were scheduled about a month out as well.

How long has it been so far? As I said before, manual verification takes time. Ours took 6.5 weeks.

Unrelated, but my interview is tomorrow! I hope they accept all our evidence.

Same thing happened here. EAP/AP was approved on Apr 27th but no updates since then. Interestingly, on the case status page the last activity changed from 4/27 to 5/11 but all the descriptions remained as they were before (case was approved on 4/27).

Someone mentioned about some machine problem at around that date but I don't know if it's accurate: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/584067-february-2016-aos-filers/page-141#entry8139765

Anyway, still waiting..

Question time: I know many of you are on K-visas, I'm wondering if anyone is on L or H and adjusting through marriage, or if anyone has seen a question like mine below answered someone...

I'm wondering about the use of the EAD and how it affects my L1. I want to use my EAD card to change to a US salary & payroll with the same company that sponsored the L1B. It's the exact same job, I'd just receive 2x-3x in USD salary which is significant if I have to wait 8-12 months for I-485 approval. Denver is way behind right now. I've read a lot about people changing employers and that by definition voids their L/H visas, but there's very little about people keeping the same employer. In fact the most I found was someone calling this exact thing a "gray area" because USCIS apparently has no rules on it.

So my question is, if my I-485 gets denied would I be able to revert back to the L1B visa after using the EAD?
