When my fiancé comes here on a fiancé visa does she have to have a round trip ticket itinerary or can it be one way?

Hi!

You don't need the round way ticket. I know cases that got round trip because was a lot cheaper than one way. but only for that reason.

As everyone has mentioned, a one way is fine but it did cause us some headache.

My fiance came with a one-way ticket. His first layover was in Germany and they called his name overhead to go somewhere and he was basically interrogated by the German officials. Remember, this is just a layover of 2 hours. So he missed his flight due to the endless questions. He was told that one way tickets can be seen as suspicious. There were some other passengers that went through this as well and they had either one way tickets or had bought the ticket the day of the flight or day before.

Their boarding passes were all marked with SSSS. See example here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_Security_Screening_Selection

I have traveled a lot and never had this happen but then again I never flew with a one way ticket post 9/11.

If you get her a one way ticket, make sure she has plenty of time at all her layovers :)

We did a round trip ticket since it was cheaper, and were able to use the return leg once my wife received her GC, but we were lucky as the GC was no hassle for us. If you do buy a round trip ticket, make sure you cancel the return flight if you do not plan on using it.

Good Luck!

I notice not only on this thread but others I've heard people say if RT and use only OW then cancel the return when in US.

My question is why? Other than free up the seat for the airliner at our expense is there another reason?

Thanks

Tyler
