Hello Everyone,

I just had my AOS interview yesterday and wanted to get some insights and opinions. After we were called, the IO seemed quite stern at first, strictly adhering to procedure. She had rise up and take the oath. Then she spent a few minutes reviewing my application and then asked for our IDs. I presented her with both our passports and she asked for DLs. My wife did not have hers with her as we assumed the passports would be sufficient. We gave her the reason for not having it which was that it was expired. She went ahead and made a photocopy of the passports and my DL. She continued reviewing my file and then asked for Birth certificates. We did not have the original copies with us and she said she was going to need to the original. I asked her what we could do and she said we are going to have to send it in.She also gave me a part of my Form I-693 that the physician did not fill out and told me take it back and have him complete that. Then put the results in a sealed envelope. She then proceeded with the interview (reviewing my file) and then asked my wife when she moved in with me to our apartment. After a while she asked for documents to prove that we are in a bonafide marriage. She asked very little questions about these except the date when we got our life insurance policy and I provided the answer. She kept all our documents and returned a few pictures back to us. My wife had made a little comment about a picture of her grand son, which made her relax a little and smile. Then she started asking me some verification questions that I had on my application. I gave her all the answers but I messed up on one part where she asked me for my SSN. My head went blank for a minute (I think i was nervous) and I messed up on the 3rd digit. I had said 1-5**** instead of 1-7*****. She paused and said 1-5? I told her I messed up that I was blank. She then proceeded asking me other info which I provided correct answers to.

Then she was asking me the NO questions I had marked on file. At the end of that she said that's it! tHen said she will request for some documents in the mail and then make her decision. She smiled and greeted us on our way out.

So guys, has anyone had this sort of experience before? Will there be an approval as soon soon as she gets the orignial copies of BCs and the part of form I693? She really had very few questions for us and spent majority of the interview time reviewing the documents. Is this a good sign? I am just quite nervous because this suspense is giving me reason to believe we messed up by not getting everything right at once. Please help! Thank you.

Hi Darnell,

I came in on an F1 visa. Which already expired. She never asked for any of my entry documentation either. Everything in my post was what she asked for.

so, for stuff that you're asking about -

are you using the reviews section here, and reading ? i ask, because a lot of people make the time to actually write in there.

Yes I am. But so far I haven't seen anyone with a similar situation. I just want to understand the process if Io says he will request for more documents and then make a decision when all docs were not complete at the interview.

From my understanding, you most likely will get an RFE (like for that medical form) to be submitted.

On my interview, I had documents missing but because USCIS lost them, they had to request them. And, always always always have originals with you!!!

9/27/2015 - AOS Interview scheduled for Nov 3

Yes unfortunately I just realized that. So do you think it will be the same RFE when the IO does request for originals? Will I have to go in again or I will just send the documents over? Do you know where I can find a copy of the request for additional documents after an interview, just in case it doesn't come in the form of an RFE.

While you should wait to see if you get an actual RFE (since you'd have to send in the cover page back alongside any requested documents), in the meantime you can review the original interview notice you got which already listed the documents the USCIS wanted you to bring to the interview. It's not going to be anything new beyond that list.

Hello All,

So I posted a different topic explaining how my AOS interview went and the 'errors' which made the IO tell us she will request for some additional documents later. So now I received the RFE this week (on a green paper) and pretty much things we messed up on during the interview were requested:

Spouse Driver's License- During the interview, the IO asked for our IDs and we gave our passports. She asked for our DLs but we did not bring my wife's (USC) because it had expired. (Note: her license also has her NJ address)

Medical examination form- The civil doctor who performed my I-693 exam did not complete some sections in a part of my form. So the IO handed that back to go get it fixed and highlighted the areas that needed to be checked

My SSN: IO asked me some verification questions and I was nervous at some point and mixed up the first 3 letters of my SSN with my wife's. IO asked if I had my SSN but i said no.

Now the most important documents which the IO also stated that needed verification during the interview were the original copies of our birth certificates. These were not requested for in the RFE. I find this very shocking as it was the first document the IO asked for and she made it clear that she would need them.

What do you guys think about this? Did she not request for it because she might not send the original copies back? Could this have been an error that she forgot to ask for these? I do plan on sending the BCs with the RFE though but I fear I might not get them back. I had to request mine from my country and it cannot be replaced unlike the BC in the USA. I have attached the RFE below

Your opinions will be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

DONT SEND ORIGINALS, ESPECIALLY YOUR BC!

Just follow the steps from the RFE and what it asks for. If it asks for anything to be notarized, get that done as well.

If you have a copy of the RFE, you can post it but just make sure you black out your name and all your personal info.

Hey AlluringSoul, Thank you so much for your response. I had attached the RFE before ill do it again. But how will the IO know I actually have it? I am surprised she did not ask for it as it was really important you know. It says the file is too large. I don't know how to make it smaller

Hi it would be great to know what ended up happening with you immigration process. We recently had very similar experience and it would be helpful to know how long it took for you to receive the communication letter after the interview and how long it took for you to hear back from them once they’ve received everything from you.

thabk you in advance!
