How you filling taxes together? If you didn't work I believe you do not have to? Or you mean that your husband will put you as dependadnt? I wonder because my husband is about to do his and I do not want to miss out on anything.

My understanding is that even if the beneficiary didn't work in the US at all in 2015, they still have to file taxes with you. You would end up filling out a form 2555, making a statement that the beneficiary wants to be considered a resident alien for tax purposes (I believe the form 2555 makes it so they won't be taxed in their home country and in the US) and a few other documents as well which I am still researching myself. Then it gets more confusing in the differences between married filing separately vs. jointly. I think the best bet is to do the married filing jointly to get more money back. The beneficiary has to be considered a resident alien for the entire year even though they were only in the country for a few months of the year. That would require a written statement stating they want to be considered a resident alien for the entire year, both husband/wife signatures. It's all been confusing and I'm still looking into it myself. I suggest checking out the tax forum as they have some much clearer and more thorough answers than I do on it.

Has anyone ever used the USCIS app to track cases? Well, my husband tracks about 250 cases at a time within our receipt numbers. Last night when he checked...it showed receipt numbers before and after ours that have received an RFE. We are really hoping that this means good news now and in the near future.?? after all we were approved on for the i129f Saturday but we had a notice date of 3 days later which fell on a Tuesday.

I have a question about name changes for tax filing. I applied for an adjustment of status early January. My husband and I got married in October, I am an F1 student and I usually file taxes. This year my husband and I want to file jointly. Only problem is my SSN is in my maiden name. Is it true that I won't be able to file jointly until my maiden name is changed on the SS card? And does changing the name on my SS card require proof of citizenship/ permanent residency? Will I have to wait for a decision on adjustment of status before filing taxes?
