Hi everyone

I know this topic might be moved due to the content and that's ok.

So here goes

My husband and I are separating. I got my permanent resident card in October. His sister is really mad at me and she has just threatened me that she will call Immigrations to retract the letter of support she wrote. that letter was an affidavit because we got RFE so she wrote a nice letter to confirm the legibility of our marriage.

I am completely freaking out.

Not only do I have to worry about how separation and divorce will affect me, now I have this to deal with as well.

Please let me know what you guys think.

Her letter means nothing. Let her threaten all she likes. Her affidavit doesn't mean anything too them anymore.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Did you laugh in her face? That's what I would have done. She has zero power over you. If I had a dollar for every "threat" to someone's permanent residency, I'd be sailing on my yacht right now.

Our marriage was definitely bonafide. We had problems for a very long time, including almost filing for divorce over the summer, then 2 months of marriage counseling, and it just got to the point where I'm so unhappy, and yes, I'm the one who wants a divorce, and yes I know there is a lot of ifs. But honestly if this causes some issues, I'll take it over living in misery. I believe that we shouldn't sacrifice our own well being over fears of being deported or such.

did you get a 2 year card or a 10 year card? if a 10 year card, I'd suggest solely to focus on the divorce, not any immigration stuff.

if a 2 year card, then you'll have other stuff to do when it's time to apply for the removal of conditions case with USCIS.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
