Good evening...my apologies for any duplication of topics, but I was unable to locate the forum/answer required - there is a lot of info to go through.

My US citizen child is sponsoring me....after I have completed my consulate interview and have been issued my visa to immigrate to the US am I able to begin applying for jobs? I presently work and would like to continue working almost immediately. I have 6 months in which to relocate. Am I able to include in my cover letter that I am a LPR with the right to work. Is that correct? Or do I have to wait until I actually move to the US and receive the green card and SSN before I begin my job search

hi

you won't need the physical green card as your passport will be stamped with the temporary i551 stamp at POE

but you will need to wait until you get your social security number, as most of the job applications request social security number for tax purposes

Thanks for such quick responses....so I gather I can job hunt. My plan was to send out hundreds of cover letters and resumes stating that I am presently in the Bahamas and can be available for an interview with 48 hours. I have heard that some people have been hired without physical interviews....they have skyped their interviews. However I am available to fly on a moments notice to accommodate a job interview if requested. I just don't want to have a lapse between jobs ...leaving and arriving in the US

What is your profession?

Well, you won't be able to work until you have a SSN. Which using comes through the mail within 2 weeks.

You can search and bookmark all the jobs you are interested in, and edit your resume to match their descriptions then after you get your SSN and you are ready apply for the jobs.

Not a qualification recognised generally in the US. I would work on what would be of use in the US.

My Family members are Chartered, and have worked in the US for International Organisations, can you get a transfer?

Networking is the way to go otherwise, unlikely any random applications will be looked at if you are not in the US.

Than you all for your comments.

Boiler a transfer is not an option, networking seems impossible when your leaving a little island in the Caribbean. However I'm hoping that I can get a job in one of the areas I listed above.

Will keep you posted

Networking nowadays is mainly on line, remember in the US it is as much about who you know as what you know.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
