Submit tax transcripts (they can be ordered from irs.gov) and not tax returns.

The transcripts are proof that you filed and that the IRS accepted your filings. The returns are just pieces of paper you fill out claiming you will file your taxes. Returns on their own are not considered proof. It takes about a week to receive the transcripts from the IRS. Or you can walk into a local IRS office and they will provide you with the transcripts on the spot. Good luck!

Just curious if when you submit your tax return for proof, do you include the whole thing or just the front page that shows you filed as married?

For ROC I submitted just front pages to show they have filed as married. Absolutely no reason to submit the whole thing.

Guys, Can I submit my complete tax return prepared by the Office ? I did with my initial papers and no REFs. We filed jointly!

Is it okay to submit all pages of our joint tax return + all other evidence required?

Posted

If you send the tax returns instead of the transcripts (which I also recommend doing) you should send in the ENTIRE tax return including the w2s and schedules. Like it has been mentioned again and again though, it's far less paperwork to get the return transcripts.

People - you're providing incorrect answers. There is no requirement to provide tax returns for ROC. Only reason to do it is to use as proof of bona fide marriage.

Correct, but if you choose to submit it as evidence then the transcript is a much better piece of evidence than the front sheet of a return which would be evidence of nothing. A complete 1040 copy includes the signature of the filers making it a better piece of evidence.

No we're answering the question as asked. The question was not "are tax returns required to be provided for ROC" but rather "if when you submit your tax return for proof, do you include the whole thing or just the front page that shows you filed as married?"

So everyone answered the question appropriately.

It is all evidence there is needed. Shows filing status which is the only things that matters, all other pages are completely irrelevant. And return which is just a printout doesn't have signatures either.

Everybody's free to submit and waste as much paper as they wish, my strategy of not including things that weren't necessary worked out well. Got 10 year GC in 2.5 months which at the time was pretty decent time...

GUYS:

kzielu You are absolutely correct.

First of all, It is not MANDATORY (OR ELSE!) that you have to submit Transcripts. If you do submit Tax Returns, NO ONE here ever said just the first page: IT IS THE COMPLETE Tax Return + Supporting documents to the Returns: W2s and 1099s or other schedules (we figure people are smart to figure that part out before commenting).

Second of all AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, IMMIGRATION is not a Taxing Agency: THEIR GOAL when renewing your Green card is not to MAKE ABSOLUTE SURE you have reported everything correctly on your Returns, make sure YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY made all payments correctly and on time: THEIR GOAL IS TO ESTABILISH THAT YOUR MARRIAGE IS REAL. THIS IS A BONA FIDE and it serves as proof of a GOOD FAITH MARRIAGE.

IF THAT WAS THE CASE:

When you send a copy of your Electric Bill: PLEASE SEND ALONG A COMPLETE BANK RECEIPT SHOWING EXACTLY how you paid it. Or a Cable Bill, PLEASE MAKE SURE IT INCLUDES ALL CHANNELS THAT BOTH OF YOU LIKE TO WATCH or else IT ISN'T ENOUGH PROOF ( How DUMB!)

iF YOU'RE SUBMITTING RETURNS, just make sure you submit THE WHOLE THING + SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS. The purpose once again is TO SERVE AS ONE, AMONG DOZENS of Bona Fides. WE PAID OUR TAXES (proudly actually!!) but that's not up to RENEWING MY GREEN CARD WITH IMMIGRATION to ensure that!!! YOUR MARRIAGE BEING FAKE is what their concern is! All your documents have to be real, you swear to that, YOU SIGN OFF ON THAT in the signature on your I751!!!!

WE ALL KNOW "IT IS BETTER TO SEND TRANSCRIPTS".... No one disagrees with that. It is however NOT MANDATORY TO BE TRANSCRIPTS OR ELSE YOU WILL BE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!!!... WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE!
