I had my interview today in Fairfax, VA ... My interview time was 8:30 and I reached there around 8 AM ... An officer came out and called out my name at 8:28 and took me to his office. He went through my N-400 application first. The USCIS officer was very friendly and asked me if I'm still 5'11 or have grown more after filing the application ...

He asked me to read the question from a paper "Which country is on the north of US?" and then asked me to write "Canada is on the north of US."

He asked me the following civic questions:

1. What group of people was taken to America and sold as slaves?

2. What is the highest court in United States?

3. How many amendments in the constitution?

4. Who is the vice president of the United States?

5. Who makes federal laws?

6. Why did colonist fight the British?

The officer told me in the end that he's recommending me for approval and that I will receive my oath letter in the mail.

Now the wait for the oath letter begins.

I love hearing testimony from other to-be citizens in DC! Thanks for the info, hopefully my hubby's interview will go just as smoothly in a couple of months. Congrats!

Hi everyone, I have been following forums on this website since October 2014 after lodging my application with USCIS for removal of my conditional permanent resident visa based on marriage. I arrived in the U.S on 01/12/2013. My entire immigration process with USCIS was smooth. On October 2015, I filed for my naturalization application and got it approved on 02/19/2016 and got sworn on my allegiance of oath on the 03/16 and now I am a U.S citizen. I would like to pledge a warm thank you for everyone in this forum because some of your experiences was valuable in preparation for my interview etc. Also my spouse had been very loving, supportive and encouraging during this entire transition of acquiring a U.S citizenship and I immensely thank her for that.

I have lodged my application for the U.S passport on the 03/16/2016 ( same day as per my oath ceremony) at the post office. I paid and requested for an expedited passport as I have plans to travel out of U.S in May this year. I will highly appreciate if anyone can give me an overview of how long it may approximately take to receive an expedited U.S passport. On the U.S Department of State website, it states that it takes them 8 business days to process the expedited passport application and adds that it will take 3 weeks to receive the passport door to door. This is bit ambiguous to me. Have anyone applied for an expedited U.S passport service and received their passport fewer then the department's projected timeframe? Again any experience or information regarding this will be much appreciated.

My wife took the oath 3/16 too. We also tried the 8 day expedite and told it no longer exists. You have to get an appointment with a National Passport Agency in in a big city, L.A., S.F. etc for an expedite faster than 3 weeks. You can only schedule the appointment within 14 days of your departure and not a day sooner and have your travel itinerary. However, if you have an itinerary for travel with 14 days, some travel agencies have a courier service where they can get you a passport in 3 days. That's what we did and the extra $135.00 was well worth not having to drive to L.A. It was delivered 3/17, check cashed 3/18 so we should have the passport tomorrow.

I called USCIS two weeks ago and they said Chicago is a busy office, but my classmate (from citizenship class) had they oath ceremonies already even though they applied after me. No, you're doing the right thing; being patient and checking on your application every now and then.

Some cases take longer than others for reasons I don't really understand.

Having a "bad record" would not slow down your application; they would just interview and tell you that your application is denied.

If you look at the June 2015 thread, you'll see a new post today from a Chicago applicant who was just placed inline. There's also another one in a different city in the same month. I hope you see some progress soon, but be patient and call them again in a month if you hear nothing by then. But remember that there are others who applied before you who are also waiting, so don't feel too depressed.
