Hey guys!

PPLEASE SOMEONE Respond...

I see a lot of people posting about needing to go to SS office even though we are in discussion for student etc based immigration.

I am confused and never got a response - if adjusting from F-1 OPT = I already have a social, now I have started a new job with new EAD, do I need to do anything about the SSN that I already have? (Since I can't change my last name until after the interview)

Which is another question: our priority date for I-485 is July 30th, I have received my EAD, and haven't received RFE, case is ready to be scheduled for interview as of September 12th, but no updates since then... Does it mean we are just waiting in line on the date or we might still be sent RFE, I would rather do it now and get it sent off sooner than later... One of those days when patience is hard

I would really appreciate some insights, things have been going so quick and smooth until now, so it really confuses me.

Your social stays the same but I guess it has restrictions for study only, so if you want to lifth the restriction to study only you have to go to the social security office with your EAD card and ID but since you are already working I don't see the point.

If your case is ready to be schedule for interview that means you are in line and it will depend on how fast your local office is processing all documents.

I know is hard but all you can do is wait, at least you are working now, just have a little more of patient. Maybe some one else who knows better about this can chip in an give you a better answer

Good luck

Here's what I did. I got my social when I was on F-1, kept the same when I moved on to H1B for work, then kept it the same when I got my EAD. My social legend said "VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION". Now, your EAD card is your DHS Authorization to work and you don't need to change your social as they will simply give you another card with the same legend printed on it. As for the name change, you can always support it with a "copy" of your marriage certificate (not license). I'd rather wait till you go for your interview get your Green Card in mail and then take it with you to the SS Office and apply for a new one. This way, you can get the legend removed and it will be similar to your USC Spouse's social security card. I hope that helps! :)

If you kept your last name, you do not need to get a new SSN until you get your green card. Once you get approved, you will get a SSN (same number) without any restriction.

You probably won't get any RFE.

Thank you so much Billett! Yeah it totally makes sense- I was done with OPT and transitioned to a new job, therefore my old EAD expired and I started on a new one, that's why I couldn't understand what are people doing with the SS office. My local office has 118 days average wait between biometrics and interview, so between Aug 26th BIO and 118 days technically we should be scheduled for December 7th, but still haven't gotten a notice. Just gotta be patient a little longer. Thank you so much for the response!!!

Thank you Amuthan!!!! That's what my thought process was exactly!!! Mine said the same legend that it's valid for work with DHS authorization only and since I finished my OPT and got a new EAD right away that's exactly what I figured was my authorization, and since I can't change my last name until after interview, I didn't do anything with my social. That makes perfect sense what you said, that's exactly my thoughts!!! Thank you!!

FGr thank you!! Yes, I'm waiting until after the interview to change the last name. Looks like I just gotta wait! :)
