Hi guys! I have a slight problem. I never got my legal name change in the mail...
We have moved right in the middle of the n 400 process.
My interview was August 26, 2021 and I was approved. Yay! BUT... as we were in the middle of moving I advised the officer right there and then hey I will still have my current address for 7 more days and then August 31st I will have a new address. He said no problem just update inside your USCIS account. Which I did. For some reason it did not work maybe because case was closed by the time they got to process it is what I suspect.
Anyway long story short oath ceremony was September 16th. It was over a video chat where the judge was on the TV screen and said you are all approved and we will mail the name change to you and give you naturalization certificate today.
Of course on the day of ceremony I was too busy waving the flag and clapping my hands, clenching my naturalization certificate haha so I did not write down the judges name or which court the judge belongs to.
From the date of the ceremony you are supposed to wait 4 to 12 weeks for name change order to be delivered by mail. I wait and noting. So I call to contact center and they say a tier 2 officer will get to you give it 30 days. So another month passes and all I get is automated email along the lines of "if you need a copy of your name change order you may request it from the court". Um ok which court? So I call around to family court like hey do you have any records, they say no, I call immigration court they say no we are not the court either, we are the sad court that put people into deportation proceedings. The lady was really nice and funny.
So I call back to try to get an info pass again or have tier 2 officer reach out, get a new service number.
I have not tried district Court or federal court yet so that's my plan for today.
Moral of the story: don't move in the middle of the process if you can help it. This is so frustrating because I notified him right there and then hey I only have my current address for 7 more days and then it's a new address. And apparently changing it inside my account did not work.
I tried filing AR 11 but the auto response was unable to process request due to case being closed. You don't say Sherlock haha.
Every time I call asking for info pass or a call back from tier 2 I wait 30 days and then it's auto generated email.
Today I'm uo at 4 am waiting to head over to the local office so I can ask the security guard at the door which court I need to go to so I can try and get a copy of a name change order.
Otherwise I cannot get the ball rolling with updating drivers license and everything else and most importantly all these things I will be needing to get a passport. What a mess.
One last hill to climb I guess. If anyone knows the name of the court which processes the legal name change that you request during n400 please let me know! When you think you've seen it all, there are many things that can still go wrong I guess. Just sharing my experience. It is very hard to get anyone to get back to you. Maybe I'm just stressed out, seems pretty straightforward to just request a copy of the record from a court but I don't know what court to contact ao I'm just going down the list calling every court there is in downtown.
Best of luck to everyone and I'll keep you posted.
