This may be a silly question but I'm learning to leave nothing to chance!

My American fiancé and I didn't meet 2 years ago: we met seven years ago, have been together for six, and have been living together in the UK for more than five. Will it cause any problems/raise any questions that we're not yet married?

You misunderstand the requirement.

Many people petition for their fiancé having not been physically in their presence in the last 2 years. You need to have face time within the last 2 years.

The length or duration of your relationship is not the purpose of that requirement. As in people who have known each other longer than 2 years are not disqualified from petitioning.

People work on different timelines, you are fine.

Every case is unique, but it sounds like you are in a long term committed relationship. If you had only been in a relationship for a short amount of time you would be more likely to have problems. My fiancé and I have known each other for nearly five years, two years less than you, but for our recent interview at the consulate they stopped asking us any questions as soon as we told them we have been living together for the past two years.

Excellent, thank you both for replying! That was what I had originally thought, but I was struck by a sudden paranoia while reviewing the paperwork that will be necessary. You've both settled my mind.

If you do currently live together in the UK you may wanna look into the DCF procedure. Way faster and cheaper than K1.

As for being in a lengthy relationship before filing, my husband and I were together 10 years before filing for the K-1. He was asked at his interview why we had not married already. He just answered honestly, and it wasn't really an issue.
