I kind of look at it a little differently...nicer to have many to choose from than one anointed candidate.

Yes, with more than a year before the election, and four months before the first primary, there are a lot of candidates in the GOP. This will pan out, and we will see where it ends up. At least there is some diversity of thought.

On the other side there is also a cast of characters although not as many. You have an old war horse with oh so many skeletons in her closet, and even older socialist war horse, and a few unknowns. The gaff master and Mr. Global Warming may decide to run. All of these candidates seem to be in a battle to see how far left they can appear showing just one line of thought in that party.
