Hi all,

Has anybody here had a successful biometrics appointment walk-in in New York? If so, I'm curious to know what your experience was, as I am hoping to do just that when I receive my appointment letter.

Thanks!

My husband was a walk in for his biometrics and we live in Boston. He said that at first the person that was checking the appointment letters gave him a little hard time but he was polite and kinda sweet talked his way in. Once he was in he had no trouble at all and had his biometrics taken. The lady at the counter changed the appointment date on his letter and signed it. I think you just have to try and see what happens...

Yes, true, i heard some waits for more than 3 months, my only concern is to got my AP atleast before December so can go celebrate with my dad's bday, it will be like big reunion also for the family..

I hope you got urs fast too and Good luck with your job searching! ;)

There are no guarantees on the timeframe, but the average seems to be around 3 months from NOA. I haven't seen my family since early February, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them. I'm not going to risk travel on the AP unless I have to though, rather have my green card in hand before I see family to make the process a little easier. Plus, getting a job is more important at this point in time, as much as I can't wait to see them.

Yes, you have your point, having green card approved is much better before traveling. For me, it will take awhile to get a job since i am pregnant :) but i am also considering to find one that is homebased something like online work..

As much as I'd love to say this is going to be enough, you have to show real hardship to getting advanced approval on the work authorisation. I don't feel that a bank statement without money on it will suffice as this doesn't prove that there isn't already money going in and out, if that makes any sense? If it were me, I'd send proof that my spouse wasn't earning, perhaps a copy of the most recent tax return outlining that they are unemployed or something along those lines. You might also want to try and expedite the process through your local congressman as I know that a lot of cases are turned down because there are a lot of people that would like to work sooner than they issue the cards. I mean, we could really do with the money right now if I could work, but just having to be patient. If you do decide to go through your district congressman you'll need to fax/email them a letter petitioning for their help, along with things like your AOS/EAD/AP NOA number, and your completed (stamped) biometrics letter. This might be your best bet, good luck.

That's my plan for the future too, as I've worked for myself since I was 16. My plan is to get used to the American work system and the types of design work people like to be able to set up a new company here. It's just a little different to the UK, and I've only ever done freelancing for one American company before.

Sorry but that's not going to cut it, they don't care that your bank account is empty as long as your USC is still able to work.

Well i did contacted my local congressman today about my EAD. i have a job lined up but i will loose it if i don't get EAD approved soon. my wife and i did mention about our financial hardship to him and he said he will see what he can do.. he asked me to fax him my three NOA and a consent form. he emailed me a consesnt form to sign and asked me to fax it back to him.. so i did filled out and faxed him.. lets see if he can do something about it..

You'll receive a response in the next few days with whether you've been accepted or denied the early work authorisation. It's hard to say what the answer will be, but from the evidence you submitted you might find it useful to get in contact with your district congressman just in case.
