Port of Entry Review
Event Date
Port of Entry : Houston
POE Date : 2015-08-07
Got EAD Stamp : No
Biometrics Taken : No
Harassment Level : 5
Comments : Entered through Houston arriving at the same time as a couple of other 747's so immigration was swamped. Waited for about 1.5 hrs to reach the boarder control guard. He was relatively friendly asking what I was doing here, if I had a job etc (felt like testing to see if I knew the visa conditions). I then was sent to the immigration room for "further processing" which is normal. Only though there was many people in there so took a long time. Finally got called to come forward, first thing was who opened the package whom I said the border control guy did (seemed like he shouldn't have done), he gave me some blah about it shouldn't be opened of which I said I knew and that's why I protected it like my life depended on it all the way over here! He was fine and then asked a few other questions like what I intended to do and did I know the next steps etc. NOTE DO NOT USE YOUR MOBILE PHONE IN THE ROOM - THEY WILL CONFISCATE IT!! All in all around three hours to get from the plane to get to my fiancee (remember if connecting you need to do the full process and re-check bags - allow at least 3 hours).

Event Description

Embassy Review : Number one tip: bring something to do/read, it's a lot of waiting in a waiting room.

And yes you can bring phones and tablets. I was fine with my kindle.

Dropped my bag off at Gould Pharmacy £3.00 a bag. If you have a laptop they'll ask you to take that out and will put it into a safe but will also charge another £3.00 on top. They do visa photos for £7.50 for four.

Queued up at 12:20, I was about 10th in line and there was probably about 20 behind me before we moved.

Lady on the desk checked my appointment form and passport which then got checked again by security before entering the security immigration line. They do about four people at a time in the security hut. Similar experience to airports. I can imagine the queuing outside not to be pleasant if its raining! I did see an umbrella stand by the front doors of the embassy after security.

After security you walk out the hut when you have your stuff around to the front doors and see a secretary who will ask you for your passport and appointment letter. She'll stick your number on the appointment letter (don't move/lose these number pieces of paper as they are used).

Up the steps on the left to a rather large and boring waiting room. You'll sit there until your number is called, it gets rather boing and tedious looking up at the screen on every ping, this indicating a number being called. There are toilets and also two photo Me machines, just in case. They do repeat numbers in case you were in the toilet. Waited until about 14:00 until I was called. First they wanted passport and appointment letter. Then birth certificate and police certificate and i134 support evidence. He did not want copies of certificates even though the embassy document list asked to bring copies. He wanted one photo, scanned it and then gave it back to me. He asked when I was intending to leave and I said as soon as possible and he wrote down ASAP on the form. He then gave me my chest x-Ray cd.

Told me to go back and take a seat.

Waited until 14:45 and got called to a nice lady whom asked how we met, asked about my fiancées child and whether the father was around and if we all got on. She also asked if I was transferring in my company, not sure if this was a trick question, so replied I have actually left my job already and I can't work anyway until I get employment authorisation. And after she did some typing the nice lady said I was approved! She than gave my birth certificate, police certificate and the 134f and evidence back to me.

She told me that it takes two weeks for me get my passport back but likely to be quicker than that. And that was that! All in all a zero hassle interview, just a lot of waiting!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
