Not super-stoked to discover that I'm now a second-class Canadian citizen after the passing of Bill C-24 a few days ago. Wondering how others feel...

As long as you don't commit terrorist act or planning any treason, I don't understand the problem. Unless there's something I didn't understand about the billl.

Yes I'm not happy with it either. It seems they don't need a reason to take away your citizenship either. I've signed a petition don't know how much that will help but sure can't hurt.

They always could take Canadian citizenship away from a terrorists, by taking them to court. Now you will never see the inside of a court and it will be gone.

Oh and guess what anyone in your family could be considered one as well if you can petition for them to move to another country, and then they could get citizenship from that country too.

See that is how messed up this bill is. Any born Canadian if there is some path to get a second citizenship are going to be second class citizens.

I've been thinking about this bill a lot the past few days. It really bothers me that my own country could disown me for some nebulous reason in the future. Obviously I'm not going to do any crazy acts that would currently take it away, but who knows how they might change the requirements in the future. In my opinion, if you are born in a country, you are a citizen of that country for life. I guess they're skirting around the possibility of causing statelessness by allowing it only for people with the option for dual citizenship. I took a course on Coursera on citizenship and immigration and it's very interesting to hear about statelessness and the different types of ways to get citizenship etc. I consider myself Canadian for life even if I do become American. Sigh. I dunno. I guess the practical reality is that it won't affect me. It just bothers me somehow regardless.

It bothers me also. They really had no need to pass this bill, they already had the means to remove citizenship from terrorist.

They pretty much remove the safe guards that they will not abuse their power!

I don't know - its a moot point for me since I don't plan to commit any of the offenses listed in the bill. I think its a jump to assume the list will be expanded or misused in the future. I don't plan to do anything illegal so I'm good.

Canada has birth right citizenship. Not every country does.

I think Canada has been too lenient in handing out citizenship....many reports of fraud..people that never stepped in Canada given citizenship..they are the ones they need to investigate.......
